Controller Power Question CTB16PC

Mine are powered on 24 hours a day. My computer is shut down over night as its not needed once the show is over, I power that back on before I leave to work the next morning. Are the controllers ok to have power all day and night or should I have a timer on them to shut them down when needed?

Mine...and I think most on here, leave their controllers powered on 24/7 during the season...

I also leave my computer on 24/7...though it goes into sleep mode at the end of the shows at night..

Ok, I want these things to last so I was curious if constant power is bad or not. I havent seen anything telling me otherwise but I know most electronics dont wear with power but I would like to be on the cautious side.

Constantly on is a good thing for electronics; it avoids something called "thermal cycling". That's where internal parts get hot then cold then hot again. It's tough on computer parts and they can fail earlier than you would hope.

It also uses more electricity.

Plus, the little heat generated by the board tends to keep moisture/condensation from forming inside the case.. but that little heat also tends to attract slugs/bugs.

FYI. I leave me on 24x7 during the Halloween/Christmas for the reasonssited above but then their off during the off season. Back to electronics..... thermal heating/cooling and electronic longevity....... I have two computers one 9 years old thats my server and the other 5 years old and they've both been on 24x7 ever since I bought them. Of course the hard drive is spinning 24x7 hence why I've been making sure my backups are uptodate. Because computers are like car engines. Sooner or later they will break......
