Bill Hoffman Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 I was going to start my show tonight, but something really weird is happening. Two days ago I ran the Hardware to make sure all controllers were being recognized, and they were. Since then, I haven't messed with the controllers, just have been hooking things into channels. Tonight, after getting everything hooked up, I went to the Hardware to check controllers, and it first showed 125, I only have 32. So I ran it again, and is showed some other weird number.I checked all controllers, and they were glowing solid. I scanned them again, it showed 5 controllers. By this time, I started to panic, so I decided to check them one by one. The Hardware recognizes the first controller. So I hooked up the second one, and it still recognized only the first one. Can't understand what is going on. Also, random controllers are operating while I'm checking. Like I said, they were working fine 2 days ago.Any help would be appreciated.Bill
Guest wbottomley Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 It's called "bad cable." Replace it.
Dennis Cherry Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 We are using Cat5 cables designed only for indoor use. The connectors do not like moisture also.Stepping on the cables or accidentally getting your feet caught in the cable is a disaster waiting to happen.Running the cables next to Ac power lines may confuse the the data stream. So are you the only one walking in the yard?Just a few things that can happen without your knowledge. If you see problems like you said always suspect bad Sat5 cables first, goes for Cat6 cables too.Cat 5 cable receptacles on the controllers are next, you can trip on a Catx cable and damage the receptacle on the controller boards.
Bill Hoffman Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 Thanks, guys. I'm off tomorrow, I will check the cat5.Bill
Bill Hoffman Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Well, I found out what my problem was, and it wasn't any of the cables. For some reason, 3/4 of the 8 channel controllers lost their assigned numbers. I re-assigned each controller, and everything is back to normal again. Not quite sure what caused it, maybe a power surge. Like I said before, they were fine a couple of days ago, and all were found by the HU. Go figure.Bill
