MP3 vs WAV

Did some tweaking the other day and changed the audio to WAV, it now seems that those sequences take a lot longer to load than the MP3 ones. So I am assuming, and we all know what that does, that it would be better to change them back to MP3 format for the show. So WAV for sequencing and MP3 for the show?

Pete I use a little of both (only because I was too lazy to change them all to a wav file) and I haven't had any trouble (crossing my fingers and knocking on wood right now) so I have no idea why it would load slow for you.

Thinking it has to do with the compression of the file. Don't know for sure.

When you say it loads slow what exactly do you mean? does your show not run smoothly?

Will be changing the WAV to MP3 for tonights show, will let you know if that is the problem. I hope so! Never had this problem before I changed them. I think either bobo of jbullard said Wav for sequencing and then change back to MP3 for the show.

After a MP3 song plays and a WAV song is next, there is a 4-7 second delay. From WAV to MP3 or MP3 to MP3, there is only about a 1 second delay.

Yes, I said that. But I use the MP3 Director to run my shows so I have to. If I was using the computer, I would select the "Preload option" and still leave everything as WAV.

A MP3 is a highly compressed file format, where the WAV is not.

Just look at the difference in file sizes for the same song.

I use a mix of mp3 and wav files. Last year I had to preload and it took several minutes. I'm taking advantage of the compressed files files since they load lightning quick and I don't have to preload. That made it a lot easier to start the show at the right time without having to back it off for the preload to finish.
Back to your question - I haven't noticed any difference between the file type taking any longer than the other.

Call me Stupid! Last night I did the preload thing, no difference, this A.M., changed from WAV back to MP3, no difference. So what was the problem?? It was the 5 or 6 seconds of dead time at the end of the song causing the delay. Cut total time of sequence down and it works fine. Note to self "check the obvious first".
