jaimwolfe
Impressive amount of lights! How/ what did you build that arch from? What holds it up?
shakeonit
It's a 120 ft. arch, built by 2.5" sched. 40 pvc, in 20 ft. sections. There are 5 ft steel poles (no rebar for this arch) in the ground at the two points the arch hits the ground that it is mounted on. It is tied down on each side where it touches down with rope. As well there is an a-frame brace at the high peak of the house which keeps it off the house. I have six eye bolts in my roof to tie it down at the three various peaks.Biggest lesson learned this year while putting it up: We needed to start at dawn, because although we started at noon, we didn't finish before dark, and that became a royal pain, being on the roof, supporting the weight of 100's of pounds of pvc, and not being able to see. shakeonit
I asked my kids if they had any original ideas for something to add to the display, and my youngest (10 year old), says, well Dad, we have lots of arches doing different things, but what about an arch over the whole house.I quickly said, well Matthew, I don't think that's possible, but I sure like the way you think... the rest is history!
