scott_one Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I have put up a few lights at Christmas time in the past, nothing fancy, just a few static lights hanging from the gutters and strung around the windows. After seeing the video of Cracker's Halloween display, I (like many others, I imagine) had to find out how he did this! Which has led me to here! By the way, Excellent job Cracker! I can see you set the bar very high here!I ordered the CTB16PC on Nov. 2 and am still waiting patiently for it to arrive. I have perused the forums for a few weeks now and have been gleaning a lot of good advice and getting a lot of great ideas for a display.I have been purchasing a lot of lights and cords and have been putting them up for the last two weekends. As I add more lights I am beginning to realize that 16 channels will NOT be enough! (although I'll make it work this year). After getting them all up. I showed my wife tonight, and she said it looked like a hodgepodge of lights, she may be right. I didn't have a plan, per se, just a thought in my head which kept changing. Oh well... 1st year and all...I have ONE song sequenced, and that one took me a long time. (longer that what I would have thought) I hope to have at least a couple more in the next couple weeks.Well, I just wanted to say Hi to all and Thanks for all of your contributions to this forum, it has helped me immensely!Cheers,Scott
Jason Burge Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Welcome to the madness errr I mean hobby Scott.
james campbell Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 welcome to the crew, have fun and enjoy the lights, the sequencing will get easier the more you do, you are right you soon realize 16 32 48 64 never enough channels:)
scott_one Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Ha Ha Jason... Madness! I can see that! Not gonna be just pull out a box of lights the week of thanksgiving, put them up and done anymore! I can see this as a year round hobby, Damn!James, I am having a ton of fun! I hope your right about the sequencing, I think I just need the controller to inspire me!
avery255 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Just woundering if you know if your controller has even shipped yet? I'm waiting for my first controller as well...
scubado Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Welcome Scott You will learn a lot here and other related forums dedicated to the Holidays. Some of us even use LOR for everyday landscape lighting. The possibilities are only limited by your skills(which you will learn and improve) space and budget and time. Have fun!
kelly jett Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 from one newbie to anotherwelcome to the insanity.james is right its amazing how quickly you put a bunch of lights and then when you look around the yard the ideas get bigger and bigger. the channels amazingly just keep growing.i started with another lighting company and switched to light o rama this year. i have 48 channels and can already think about how i could use 32 48 --96 more.when you stand in your yard and you suddenly get that crazy idea in your head ask around the forums. someone may have something similar and everyone is gracious enough to help you figure it out.this is the only hobby i know of where everybody steals ideas from everybody else and were glad to do it.like the wise man once said "we're not just putting up lights. we're creating memories for generations." have fun
brownjm74 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Scott, Welcome to the world of craziness (in a good way!). If you find yourself in the Lansing area Nov 25- Jan 2, stop on by (send me a PM first so I can make sure I'm home) and I will show you around. And if you have any questions, just ask.Jeremy Brown
daveo150 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I'll second that Scott, I'm new too....and all thanx to that video from Cracker. (which I've thanked him profusely for posting).I told my wife I've managed to keep this under wraps for years, but now I have to light things up again! I'm determined to create something like that for next year.I will say though, if you do some searching in here for sequences, the one thing I noticed right away is the willingness of almost everyone to share their sequences! It's a lot of work, and everyone is so generous. I've located so many links to sample sequences that really helped give me some ideas when I was stuck.....
dknahoolewa Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I've joined the maddness and it gets better everyday. All my neighbors are already begging me to turn them on. this is my first year and i'm already getting people stopping to watch when i run tests. I showed the wife and kids the other night and they love it.Welcome to the year long maddness. Good Luck...I'm glad I started last year and I'm still buying last minute stuff.
