John2571
Where can I get an FM transmitter shipped with next day air? I don't have a FM transmitter yet and my show starts friday. If there is anyone around CT that has an fm transmitter to sell please contact me.

Jim Saul
Since you are in CT, your best bet would be to contact LOR and get a WH2. Yes they are not the greatest, but if you put the long antenna on it, hit the hidden switch in the battery compartment and put it on the lawn 30 feet from the road, it will work so cars in front of your house and your neighbors houses will be able to hear it. And since LOR is only 1 state away so 1 day should not be an issue.

Has about a two mile radius.People please read up on the FCC Part 15 Compliance.go to http://hobbybroadcaster.netthe maximum allowed power isn't in watts, it is in nano-watts 11.43nW using a dipole antennaand you can cover a 500ft radius with that. some sites say you only cover 200ft, mine covers a block and my transmitter is FCC Compliantand if you are using a High Power FM transmitter. 2,5,20, and I read even 50 wattsits not stepping on commercial radio stations that would be your problem, its interfering with the Aviation band because of your harmonics being generated by these cheaply designed HLLY type FM ModulatorsAnd if you have said, "my property is larger than that", then buy 2 or 3 of these $35.00 FM Modulators and space them 500ft apart and broadcast on the same frequency and wire the audio together and mount them outside in a weather proof boxhere is how I did mine, and not once in my 5 years of this hobby has someone complained about not being able to hear the light show Attached files

Be it granny down the street who can no longer hear her big band music, or the station themselves, if either one calls their local FCC field office, that will be a problem for the lucky owner of that cool shiny "high power" transmitter they got (for under 50 bucks!).Do that with even the cleanest commercial transmitter you can find, and you are stillasking for trouble. Not saying some of this 29.95 ebay crap won't generate spurs up and down the band, but its two issues, not just one.Its somewhat a waste to even try to convince people of the dangers here, its been said plenty of times. The need to "broadcast a 1/2 mile" will ultimately be the downfall of one lucky display owner.
PMC
I try to get the word out that people don't need these higher power FM blow torchesmaybe its because I am a broadcast engineer and I feel its my duty to informto me 100mW is as high as I would go and mount this transmitter in the middle of the house on the lowest floor with the crappiest antenna/coat hanger you can useyou could even use a 9vdc power supply instead of a 12vdc that would lower the power of a 100mil xmiter and still keep the PLL energized
plasmadrive
I got one of those HW2 this year.. for my first year of animation.. It is... how do I put this nicely.... a waste of time and money. I bought it a few months ago and just now got around to trying it.. Now I am scrambling to find a replacement. EDM is out of stock and far away.. I am looking at other options..It does work in my shop from my computer desk to my shop stereo.. all of about.. 15'-20'One lesson learned! plasmadrive
Well, I have to admit it.. after reading all the posts again.. I finally connected with that "secret switch" under the QC label. Obviously it is a power switch. I clicked it and it now works all the way to the road with no issue. It is about 65-70' from my upstairs window where I have it sitting with the ant. all stretched over the shutters (my wife isn't fond of that)..The volume is still low but the quieting is much better and at least it is clean enough to be usable. I ordered one of those .5w units like the Fail Safe, but I ordered mine from China. $52 plus shipping. I also ordered an second newer type of unit they were having a special on. Cost only $8 more to add it to the shipping. We shall see how they do.Went live last night.. my first LOR animated show..
plasmadrive
Just got the two transmitters from China. I hooked up the newer model just because it was the first one out of the box. Nice clean unit.. works great! Now I have two extra transmitters.. Which I had found that secret switch before I ordered the others.. but at least the stick ant is cleaner then the HW2 wire draped on the shutters.. :-)
