George Simmons
I don't mean to sound insensitive, but how does that screw up your whole weekend? Just how long has a car memorial service in Nebraska gotten to be these days? Here in Minnesota, we say a quick goodbye while hovering over the car's carcass, and then get back to hanging lights. Guest guest
I don't get it either George. When my car has issues it goes to the garage, I come back home and work on things until they call me the car is ready for pick up, stop what I'm doing for about 15-30 minutes to go get my vehicle, come back and resume where I left off.If it's so far gone that it's beyond repair, and I've sent quite a few to the car boneyard, I call, they come tow it off and I sign a few documents and get a little cash for the junker. That takes all of about 5 minutes from my time. Now the only way I CAN see this screwing up anyone's decorating is if they are the ones doing the repairs to the car and depending on the backyard mechanic and what has to be fixed could take as little as a couple hours to 2 days, been there and done that with my late father. Now I just take the car to a garage and alleviate that headache.Other than the person repairing the car that could cause delay in decorating, I see no other issue in getting the decor up. When my late father and I used to work on the(our) car(s), if it were during a time we decorated, if one of us could do the job for a bit on the car, the other would put up the decorations, and we'd switch off on things I couldn't do or didn't know how to fix on the car. So between us, we still got the car repaired and our decorations up in time for a Thanksgiving Light Up!If their son is old enough to drive, he should also know something on doing some repairs to his vehicle. major repairs should be left up to the professionals at a garage (just my opinion).Well that's my .50¢ worth on the matter. scubado
My van is outta commission at the present time, who cares, I'm on vacation. I need a new radiator and ordered one online, saved a few bucks rather than getting one locally. My lights are already up, did it earlier in the month when it was nicer out, lately we've had a chilly wind. I'm hopeing to video the lights tonight. I need to make a couple snubbers today, I have a couple elements that aren't fading well.Hey Doug, I see you're still online. How come you're not working on the car so you can get your lights up? Busted!

scubado
At least it's just car problems. My son took out a windshield last night. He rides his bike everywhere and any time. He only has his temps. Last night he was out and a young lady did a left turn in front of him not seeing him and he plowed into her car and smashed the windshield. He was very lucky, being chilly at night he had plenty of clothing on and a backpack. The backpack took the brunt of the hit to the windshield. He did go to the emergency to be checked out and is fine. A sore ankle and knee is about it. The bike is totalled, the frame is bent. Yes, he was wearing a helmet, broke a strap on that too. She was sited to be at fault, so my son should do well from the insurance.

Have a good day!Not to be insensitive or belittle any situations (yours, mine or others), but I couldn't resist topping you all...my mom passed away this morning. Honestly wouldn't have posted this otherwise but this thread truly brought me some humor yesterday during our difficult time when I stopped home to catch a little break from our "watch"--just kept chuckling to myself through the day and night yesterday how I sure was going to top your light decorating setback. It was just so ironic when I read the title. My mom has had Alzheimer's the past few years (at a relatively young age) and it has been a long good-bye (as my dad says so well). However, she took a fairly surprising downhill turn Friday mid-day. A majority of our large family was all there with her since then, which was good. Now time for me to head back outside to work on the installation--actually will be a nice time to myself just to process and grieve.

Surfing4Dough
Thank you all for the kind thoughts and words. We know that she is celebrating the true meaning of Christmas firsthand, so find great peace in that. Thank you again for a little levity in this thread the past day that I was even able to share with a few other family members including my father.PS: Doug, hope the car search goes smoothly and still get the decorations done. Sounds like your son has to now help you with set-up.
