jer75 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Hi all , I've been let down really bad by the people I was buying my lights from , thye sent me 20 sets of 200 lamps so I strung up one of my 2ft mini trees turned on the lights to admire my good work and ....................... the tree just didnt shine out , my battery torch had more light output than the lamps so I'm sending all the other packs back for a refund. In light of this situation I'm now in I was considering running my controllers at 110v not 240v and being a builder I have the necassary step down transformers to run the controllers but this means I'll need lights/LEDs from the USA , where would I find 200 LED white and 200 LED blue strings that will work with these controllers and look good at the same time. A few links to sites that you guys n gals have been using that ship internationally would be great . I'm not to concerned if I'm not up and running on 1st December as I have a large static display as well , all I want is some good lights so when I do fire the system up it'll look good. Many thanks from a rather dis-heartend fellow displayer:(
spindler88 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Jer75, Here is a web site where you could buy LED lights. They have a sale going on right now so a good opportunity to get in on it. Good luck http://www.christmaslightsetc.com/led-christmas-lights.htm
jer75 Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Many thanks spindler88 , What type of LEDs do people use with these controllers as there seems to be a large selection , over here most of the LED lights run from 12v/24v transformers so cant be used . Do you use these types : http://www.christmaslightsetc.com/p/70-LED-Sapphire-Blue-%28Mini-Ice---M5%29-Light-Set,-Green-Wire-Patriotic-Lights-and-Decorations--20295--183.htm Not sure what I'm looking at with all the different types :? Thanks Jerry

All help gratefully recieved as I'm only used to working with 240v kit :? cheers Jerry

They come with the 'standard' U.S. 110v two prong plugs. (No ground.) A male/female on one end and a female on the other.I have no idea about how you will connect these to your 220v plugs on your controller.I have absolutely no idea how the step-down transformer will work. Can you just put it between the house and your controller? And then all 16 of the output from the controller will be 110v? It seems to me like stepping down to 110v before the controller which is expecting 220v would not work... But keep in mind I really do not know anything about this at all.Maybe some of the electricians on the forum will be able to offer more assistance????Good luck!LORi
gmacw Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I switched this year to LEDs which I bought all from creative displays. I can say they are pretty good quality & shine pretty brightly. I very happy with them. Not sure if they ship internationally or not but worth a check. good luck & happy holidays!
jer75 Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Thanks gmacw I'll send them an email , As for the transformers LORi they will go before the control boxes so they will have a 110v supply , Fairly simple idea as it saves me altering the controller jumpers to except 220-240 v . Thanks for the info on the light strings I wasnt sure what plug they came with if any having read a lot about vampire plugs I thought you had to put your own on  . Now I can start ordering in the hope of getting a nice display this year . Many thanks to everyone for their input Jerry
jer75 Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 Hi all again , Funds are getting tight at the moment so I may have to leave the LEDs till after christmas and just do the best I can for this year within my budget , But there is a guy here in the UK that is selling bulk loads of lights on ebay that are 110v ,they used to be on an arctic lorry for christmas parades , will these be bright enough if I string 4 together , 50 per string , and would I be ok to put that many on 1 channel . here's the link to his auction , they are cheap http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110v-Christmas-lights-site-lights-110-volt-American-Christmas-lights-/200678934519?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET&hash=item2eb96587f7
