Unknown device.....

It sounds like you didn't assign it a unit ID.

Connect it to your computer. Open the hardware util.

The lower right box is Set Unit ID's.

Unit ID is set to one by default, so you have to change the second unit.

Hope this helps.

What version of the LOR software are you using. If using software before 3.0.2 then the file that is needed for the system to recgonize the controller is not the most current.

Basically the way I understand the HWU utility works in displaying the text on what type of controller is this. When you search for the controllers, the HWU goes out to each address in the range you set the max unit to and says "Hello Are you there? What are you? The controller responds with a numeric value. Then the hardware utility looks up the numeric value from a file that contains all the values for the current controllers available and gets the description information. The HWU then displays the description, such as CTB 16.

Version 3.0.0 was releases with a faulty file for this ID. Version 3.0.2 fixed this problem like the first or second day of the release. Versions since 3.0.2 have not reported any problem with this issue.

Also if you have 2 controllers with the same ID. They both attempt to tell the HWU their id at the same time and it is just jumble for the HWU to understand. This case will give you the same "Unknown device"

All this to say. If the HWU reports the address where you want it. Most likely the controller will STILL control lights.

Just re-read the OP posters comments. You do not say if you set both controllers to seperate addresses. The controllers are all shipped from the factory with Address 1 set. If you did not change one of your controllers addresses to 2 then the response you are getting is expected. See above for information on having 2 controllers with the same address.

If the addresses isn't the problem, it could be the network cable between the two controllers. I had an issue where the LED on the boards were all red, but when the HWU found the devices, two of the controllers came up as Unknown Device. When I tried to control the lights, I got an erratic response. Replacing the Cat-5 cable fixed the issue.
