mcnamara9
I hooked up a few controllers last night and I noticed that when I was assigning the controller ID on my recently received G3 units, it would say I successfully changed the controller ID, but when I hit refresh, the new ID # along with "unknown device ???" is shown in the window where the controller number is. If I remember right, it should say "ID# - firmware version info".When I run a show from the .mp3 Director, Controller 1's lights come on, but NONE of the other controllers function. When I plug my laptop directly into any of the controllers, I can control the lights just fine. I assume the lights are not working because of this weird message of "ID# - unknown device ???" when assigning the ID's which is causing the communication issue. I am using 2.9.4 Advanced software.Has anyone else run across this problem with the new G3 controllers?Brian
JBullard
Several weeks ago I believe a patch was issued for people that were still using S2 2.9.4 with the new Gen 3 controllers. Can't remember which thread Dan posted it in.I suggest opening a Help Desk ticket

JBullard
If the controller works I'd live with it for now.
mcnamara9
Well, the next day I put a different sequence on and everything worked fine. Somehow, someway, the test sequence i put on was somehow corrupted. Weird. I've been doing this a long time and have put up dozens of displays and this is a first for me.I found out from LOR Support that the "unknown device" is because I'm using 2.9.4 and that the new 3.0 software allows you to name controllers. Can you explain what, exactly, is meant by this?
mcnamara9
From my brief conversation with LOR, ver. 3.0 has some functionality where you can label the controllers. ver 2.9.4 doesn't recognize that functionality and so it gives you the message "unknown device" next to the controller number. I don't know the particulars as I have not upgraded to 3.0 yet (will do so after the season). I apologize I don't know more, but I didn't dive into that topic with John. Don
I'm wondering if we are talking about two different things. Unless I've missed it, I haven't found a way to 'name a controller' within the Hardware Utility. (Which is where I've seen the Unknown Device error with S2 and a G3 controller.) mcnamara9
I "think" the only way to label a controller is by using the S3 software. I haven't downloaded S3 yet so I can't provide the steps on how to do it.
