WebCam Question

Hi, I am wanting to set up a web cam to allow others to watch my show live this season. Only problem I have no experience in this matter... I am wondering if anyone would be willing to share their setup? I most likely would have to Broadcast from my neighbors house so would wireless be the best? Also does anyone know of a Solar Powered wireless cam? Or am I just way overthinking this problem? Thanks in advance.

How about a network security camera? you can run a 100ft cable from one of those... and then just broadcast the sound directly from the PC simultaneously. Just make sure you get something that doesn't have an auto night vision, or you'll loose your color video.

Try to get a low lux camera, (I use a surcurity bullet camera) here is a link to where I got mine http://www.wallcoinc.com/BL_200_Color_Bullet_Camera_420_TV_Lines_3_6mm_L_p/wal88-bl-200.htm

It is a little pricey but the quality is very good, you can probably find a better deal out there. I did demo one of their higher quality HD cameras which looked great but it need to downconvert to stream to the web so I settled on this one.

Not sure what to tell you about the wirless, I can say this camera has a wide angle lens on it so you can put it rather close to the display and still see everything.

By the Way, Welcome to LOR Forums

I never used a webcam.

Here's a 0.5 Lux wired camera
Outdoor Camera

I been video broadcasting my light show for 5 years now and for all 5 years I been using justin.tv as my video pipeline

Also, you need to have your audio along with the video and the only way I found to do this and have clean audio is use a separate computer with a radio connected to it, I use my old Acer Laptop with a USB video card connected and the audio connected to the mic/line in on the computer.

If having a neighbor house your camera, and they have internet I think you could do your complete video from there. and use a radio to pick up your music and wire that into your video computer.

I don't like splitting my audio without a D/A, so I use a radio to feed my outdoor speakers and another radio to feed justin.tv

ustream.com com to stream the video.

couple things about low lightfilmtaking... the lower the lux the better the camera will work at night
outdoor security cameras are the best ... weather wise

What software/hardware do folks use for live streaming? How do you get it from the camera to the world to see live?

Thanks,

Thanks,

ustream and a USB webcam with a mic the lag time is about 5-10 seconds depending on how many people are on ustream.

you can also get a regular video camera and a video card ..

logitec makes an bunch of different webcams that has a built in mic under a $100

I use the 615C in conjunction with video conferencing software. It is clear as hell but... low light is not it's friend..

as always make sure you get a cam that your pc can handle so read minumum requirements before you get one

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/webcam-communications/webcams

unfortunately logitec marketing dept. apparently does not know what a specification sheet is or at least i can't find one.. to find the lux spec.

The thing that I have learned over the years is that the lower the lux capability the better the cam is on low light.

hope this helps

Thanks doug.

This really helps out. I just bought a brand new computer a couple months ago so now I can start learning to do videos and webcam stuff.

And wallleyes, thanks. Sounds like ustream is a popular choice.
