everettbill
I need to update the firmware in my old model 2 controller so I can run it with a show controller. How do I communicate with the controller if I do not have a serial port on my laptop?

Guest guest
You update the firmware in your controllers via the LOR Hardware Utility. Not directly through a serial port. The firmware goes through the USB485/USB485B dongle via the CAT 5 connections to the controller. When updating firmware in a controller make sure you only have ONE CONTROLLER connected for best results, although you can have all connected, I just prefer to do them one at a time.Once in the HWU click on the firmware button at the bottom, it will open a window, if you have more than one controller connected make sure you click the circle next to:Selected unit listed above (make sure you have the correct controller selected from the top drop down menu)Now select firmware file (you may have to browse to the file) and click the Open button to the right. Now click on the Download button (which would be greyed out BEFORE you opened the firmware file, but enabled once the box has a firmware file in it).You will see a progress box showing the firmware is being downloaded into your controller. Whatever you do, DO NOT DISTURB or DO ANYTHING ELSE ON YOUR COMPUTER WHILE THE FIRMWARE IS UPDATING. Recommendation is CLOSE EVERYTHING (EXCEPT THE HWU) WHILE THE FIRMWARE IS BEING UPDATED!Once completed, you should now see the controller in the top down menu has now been updated with the version of firmware you just installed into it.
