hanging rope lights on a flat surface question.

Maybe you all can give me some ideas on this. I am planning on using my 1965 VW Bus in my Christmas Display. I plan on hanging rope lights along the body lines. I want to keep the rope lights in a straight line with no sags. what could I use to keep them straight and what could I use as hangers to attach to the Bus body without damaging the paint.

First of all, welcome to the forum (noticing it was your first post).

Lots of great folks here with great ideas.

Maybe the use of magnets with a hook with a thin layer of material under them to keep from scratching the surface. Then use wire ties to attach the rope lights to the magnets. They sell some good ones at local hardware stores.

all great Ideas I might use a combination of them all. I don't know why I didn't think about the magnet hooks. I use them inside my camper

Yes this was my first post. last Christmas purchased the deluxe software and started doing my own music sequences. I have a small recording studio and some of my sequences are with my own music. In March I bought the 16 channel controller and this Christmas will be my first with music. I am so excited. I love this stuff. my theme will be a surfer/Hawaiian Christmas. I have made surfboards with lights that go in the bus with a Santa dressed in a wet-suit. My bus is already Red and White so it fits right with my theme. I have plans on getting another controller for next year and adding Arches. I love the leaping arches. I hope to get video and share it here. In the year I have been following this page I have found everything I needed and haven't had to post a question until now.

My house is small as the yard is also so I am starting off with only 16 channels but I can see room for at least 32. I attached a picture with Santa's surfing sleigh in the drive way. Any Ideas for the theme would be welcomed.

once again thanks for the help.

Your house will light up very nice with the light colored siding. I wished I had that. red bricks are hard to get good color from lights shining on them.

My parents had almost the same VW bus when I was younger and we traveled on vacations all over the place.

If you feel brave (technically), why not use two Cosmic Color Ribbons in the sweeping front-to-back design?

Also, tape some wax paper on the inside windows and light them from inside.

Make your headlights, taillights and parking lights controllable from LOR too.

Get some blue string lights, lay them on the ground in front of the bus, parallel to the bumper, and control each one individually, in a ripple fashion, just like riding the waves. Trick it out.

This is assuming you don't need your cute VW bus for the holiday season.

That sounds sweet. I have this year planned out already but all those ideas are going to be placed on the list for 2013. Thanks
