Tom L.
I have a computer that operates on win-7 64 bit. I can't get my hardware utility to find any comm ports, even auto finder. My older computer operates on win-XP and it works great.Question: Do I need an upgrade driver for the usb485b converter? Thanks, Tom L. -klb-
Use device manager to see what com port is appearing/dissappearing when you plug/unplug the adapter. The sequence editor and show player can use high com ports, but HW utility will only go up to 15 or 16.Also make sure you don't have sequence editor or show player trying to use the port at the same time. To fix it, I just changed the usb485B to a lower numbered comm port in the advanced device proporties. (ex: from comm 22 to comm 2)
Tom L.
Thank you all for your input. I figured out that the USB Driver for win-7 was not installed. I went to Google typed in FT232R USB UART and downloaded the proper driver for both 32 bit and 64 bit (same driver) followed the instructions and all is well with the world.Thank you ! TJ Hvasta
Really, you should have used the LOR driver CD that came with -485B. Using some other driver is just asking for trouble..

-klb-
I don't have the link at the moment, but I think even 2 years ago there was a LOR document describing how to find the drivers direct from the FTDIchip site.
JBullard
I always use the most current drivers directly from the FTDIchip site. You did the correct thing.
DukeEgr93
I really wish I could say the same. I am so frustrated right now... My USB485B was working fine three weeks ago. I just got a new CCR and was going to hook it up directly to the USB485B...and now I am getting the "Unable to locate the Light-O-Rama port." error. I have tried about a dozen different things (uninstalling everything, using the FTDI clean, installing an old driver, uninstalling that and installing the newest one). I am running Windows 7. In the Device Manager, under Ports (COM & LPT), there is a USB Serial Port (COM6). In properties, the Driver is 2.8.14.0. Other than the mouse and keyboard, this is the only USB item I have connected...Any ideas? This is about the worst gumption trap I have been in for a while... DukeEgr93
This is the part of the show where you watch a total meltdown happen.I apparently have FOUR bad CAT5 cables. Because when I finally decided to hook up the CAT5 from the 1602 I have...it found it...
