Christmas Displays on Foursquare

Foursquare is half game half social networking, but absolutely useless/pointless, but oddly addictive. If you haven't tried it, you're probably better off.

You have a fsq account and a fsq app on your GPS mobile device. As you visit places you can check in. You friends can see where you are at (if you choose to share) and you can provide tips, pictures, etc. You can also propagate this information via FB & Twitter.

Then if you check in to the right combination of places you earn badges. Silly I know, but appeals to people suffering from OCD, and I have 82 of these badges, some I drove a long way to get.

Also as you check in you get points and it ranks you against your friends and adds a sense of competition.

And then if you check into a place more than anyone else you become the mayor.

Some places will offer specials for first checkin, after 10 checkins or for the mayor. For example I got a free Firehouse sub once, free appetizers at chilis, lots of discounts on red box, free pizza at Austin's pizza, etc.

Aside from the game, the discounts can be nice, too. I got 20% off brunch in Chicago, and 40% Justice clothing in PA.

Unfortunately, my venue doesn't offer any specials... just the amazing Christmas lights for everyone :)

My wife got me hooked..it became competitive. Nothing more annoying than forgetting to check-in somewhere to get your points...:(

With all my traveling, the points add up.

And yes, the discounts are pretty good also.
