MrTechie
I got my software last year and I am running 2.8.10 Basic Edition.I see that LOR Software is now up to 3.2Just curious - is there any real significant difference in features? Is it worth upgrading the software? Thanks
bob
First, to clear up possible confusion, it's not 3.2, it's 3.0 (specifically 3.0.2). 3.2 will be a future release.Check out this post for an overview of 3.0.0 (3.0.2 is a small bug fix on top of that). LindellM
Another Q about upgrading. Wednesday evening (10-19), I purchased an upgrade to what the website picture of the software package showed as S3. When I chose the $70.00 upgrade for the Basic Plus to Advanced, it showed S2 only. Not S3. When I rcvd the final confirmation, it still indicated S2. When I downloaded LOR, and checked my License Key , it indicated that I could not upgrade to this version. There has been no further info with regard to upgrading. And, I THOUGHT it should be a fairly simple process. I am trying to teach my Electronics class the basics of LOR and was hoping to have a display finished for a school wide demo for halloween. I am having no luck even with the older version (basic plus) accepting our Key and allowing it to present a show.I am sure I am missing something, but.......Thanks,LindellThis is an UPGRADE! You must have a valid License Key for the Light-O-Rama Software Suite. You can then upgrade to a higher level to unlock the additional features of that level. In most cases, you will receive a license key via Email within minutes of your purchase. To activate new features, the upgrade form can be found in the Help Menu of the Sequence Editor. (Note: Your key will not change so you do not need to re-enter it.) CD is optional* - You will use the same software that you have today. The new license key will unlock additional features. *The price of the CD includes S&H to the US and Canada
-klb-
Is there a chance your license key has already been used on 5 computers, and that this is a new install? Does the PC you are installing it on have internet access? You are correct that this is normally an easy process, and the upgrade in license levels does qualify you for S3. LindellM
Thanks for the help. The software was installed on 2 computers. A laptop and desktop that I used at home and they have died and I have yet to access the hard drive to xfer files (hopefully). I should have had extra installs. However, on the current laptop that I tried to install it on, I a: uninstalled the "demo" version and b: downloaded and installed the "S3" version. When trying to register it, I get the message that I cannot upgrade. Is there on-line access through LOR that shows my "install" history? Thanks,Lindell
LindellM
Forgot to add this, but I will be calling LOR within the hour for help. Thanks again,Lindell
-klb-
I am not aware of any interface to your install history. It sounds like as long as you have internet access on that PC, this should be working. Especially if you have been able to copy and paste the license key from the email into the registration field.Having purchased the license level upgrade yetsterday, I would give them a call, so they can clear up the issue for you. They have occasionally found reasons where an upgrade did not reset the eligible software revisions field, which could cause your issue. They should be able to clear that up with a call. Or, at least email them your email address, and registered owner name, indicating that you upgraded, but you are unable to get S3 to license on this PC.. bob
LindellM, first, regarding "S2" or "S3", it's possible that we missed some parts of the website that say "S2", and if you find any we would appreciate if you would tell us their URLs so that we could fix them, but there is literally no way to purchase an S2 license at this point. Any license that you purchase (or upgrade or renew or whatever) will be an S3 license. Now, regarding your problem upgrading, you say that you tried to upgrade from Basic Plus to Advanced, this past Wednesday. It looks to me like you already did that back in November of 2009. So, when you tried to upgrade from Basic Plus on Wednesday, it told you you couldn't, because you have no Basic Plus license to upgrade from: You don't have a Basic Plus license. You have an Advanced license. This is why your license can't be activated in S3 as well: The upgrade that you purchased was not valid (since you don't actually have a Basic Plus license), and so your license was not renewed. What I believe you should purchase is not a license upgrade (e.g. "Basic Plus to Advanced"), but a license renewal. You can do so from here. However, please note:Due to the way our store's hosting provider works, it is likely that your "Basic Plus to Advanced" purchase actually did charge your credit card, despite the purchase not being valid. We unfortunately don't have any control over that. So, I suggest contacting LOR Customer Support to get that charge reversed. If they have any questions, please feel free to have them contact me (bob@lightorama.com) about this.
LindellM
Just got off the phone with Brian at LOR. Apparently, because of time period, I had to "renew" the license. I just sent my "Offline Registration Key" to get my "Offline Authorization Key". Once recieved, I will be able to run the S3 version I just upgraded to.Should work now. Thanks again,Lindell
LindellM
On the LOR website, I chose the "Software" icon, then selected "Upgrade", then in the "SW-Upgrade", it showed S2 upgrade: . Then in the order reply, I rcvd the following:Name Code Qty Each Options-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------S2 Software - Upgrade SW-Upgrade 1 70.00 Optional CD = Download Only (no CD)(Shipped) S2 Upgrade = Basic Plus to Advanced (+70.00) Subtotal 70.00 Shipping 0.00 Tax 0.00 Total 70.00This completes your order. Thank you for shopping with us.Again, showing "S2".After talking to Brian, and he got me going, there was no indication that I initially purchased the "Advanced" LOR.Hopefully, you are correct. ($$ for the school)Thanks,Lindell

We're working on this one (and a couple others like it), but it's unfortunately not as easy as most of them due to the way it ties into our store's hosting provider.
