Falling off a roof

Okay... Fell off my roof while scoping the drains. Not a hobby I would recommend for ANYONE :D Jammed my right shoulder pretty well, but as you can see, I'm still around. Hope this don't put a damper on decorating!

Good you're still with us Tom! Too bad I dont have any DC overnites this month, I'd come help put your lights up! Heal up quickly, my fellow Arlingtonian! ('grew up in Clarendon)

Thankfully, I already have my Mega/Spiral tree assembeled. Pretty much everything else too. Just gotta move them into position when the Wife allows :D If you do ever get an overnite, give a call and stop on by 571-238-8056.

Nope... Don't step on round cables that are close to the edge of the roof. Did get a nice gash over the right eye. Just in time for Halloween. :D

I'm hiring a crew this year to do my roof work. Couple hundred bucks is a bargain compared to time lost and suffering due to an injury.

Glad you're okay Tom.

But I've gotta ask... Am I the only one who saw the thread title and then looked right expecting it to have been started by Jimswinder?

Glad your doing ok Tom. Falling off of roofs seems to be more common than electrical shocks in this hobby. Had a local guy fall off of his ladder just a couple years back. Landed on his concrete porch. Did you land on soft ground? Ya, know, it was not that soft though right?

i made a little attachment for my air blow gun and clean the gutters with it blows the leaves out no problem from the ground even!

Landed on the back deck. Had a tarp up that helped break the fall. Only about 7 1/2' Still... hurts like Hades (which I'm happy to say, I didn't fall THAT far :D )

You know what they say Tom...It aint the fall, it's the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts. Glad you are OK!!

It's good it was just a short fall, and nothing permanently broke! My next DC overnite, I'll send off a PM and let ya know! We stay at the DoubleTree in Crystal, just off US1. There's a terrific sport pub on 23rd & Eads I always do for lunch.

Heal quick, dude!

  • 4 months later...

Well, after 5 months of pain in the shoulder, I finally got a MRI. Yup, it's a torn rotator cuff. Hoped it wasn't, but the PT wasn't working and so... It looks like surgery. Least I should be out only a few months. So much to do and so little time. Piece of advice to all...

DON'T FALL OFF YOUR ROOF!

Hey Tom,

Have done the torn rotator myself. The surgery is not bad, the recovery is OK, but the PT is lots of fun. Just work hard a the PT and you will get back almost 100% of the range of motion. I am a good 10 years out from the surgery and have no ill effects. Sorry you have to go through it all, but the outcome can be fine

Hugs
Denise
