LOR or PC Controller and 40' ext cord runs.

I am about to take my first step into what has been described by others as a crazy addiction. I am just about ready to place my first order and I am excited out of my mind to start working with this stuff. A couple questions that I would like to ask the seasoned pros here.

I am going to have multiple 30 - 50' runs of extension cords. And for this first year a lot of my lights are going to be incandescent because I have them already (will be phasing them out over the next year to be replaced by LED).

Does the long runs and inc. lights affect a decision of a LOR1603W w/ MP3 director controller or getting the PC CTB 16PC and just buying a Showtime Director DC MP3.

Also with the long runs should I consider 18 or 16/2 SPT?

A quick response means I can place the order tonight :D:)

I appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Pete

18/2 SPT2 will work wonderfully for you. MANY use SPT1 & 2 with great success. I have some SPT2 Cords close to 100' long and have never had a problem. Order it online in large spools and vampire plugs in bulk to save some dough. Good Luck!

In another post you indicated that you were a journeyman electrician.

So I am sure you can calculate the current draws for the proper wire size, and any voltage drop for your lights.

The steel case LOR1603w has UL 508 certification, and in the other post you mentioned installing at your business. Your local ordinance should be consulted.

Otherwise either option you mentioned will work the same.

Thanks guys,

I am a beginning Journeyman. Meaning I pull wires through holes HAHA. In my little town where I am located, I don't think it will matter one way or another as far as ordinance is concerned, but I will consider it either way.

All the same to get started a little cheaper I think I am going to go with the PC and Showtime Director. More money for lights, maybe a CCR :D

Thanks again, will keep the forum posted on my progress.

Might consider the mini-director instead of the showtime director, considering your logic about more money for lights. Only difference is it doesn't have a built in timer--just buy a timer power strip instead for $20.
