KarlSmith
Anyone ever use these Vortex Ground Anchors?http://www.libertyhardware.com/search/detail/?searchType=&ID=ANCBPT7-HSG-U1&FIN=HSGI was thinking to use these for the guy wire cage of a spiral mega tree. With 15 of these I think the loads will be spread out well. mcompanik
I have used rebar that I can cut to a length I need. I would imagine they could work, but they are only 7.5" long, and depending on how high your mega tree is, they might pull out of the ground. I used 2' pieces of rebar last year, and they started to pull out on me last year when we had some wind. I am going to try the ground anchor system from christmaslightshow.com this year. I find it odd that their Web site has no technical data for these. They appear to be tent anchors. I would stay away from these for anchoring your Mega tree. Two foot re-bar is probably more cost effective and provide greater holding strength, IMO.

beeiilll
I use 4 screw anchors for my 20' mega tree. They are 66" long with a 6" wing diameter on them.I get them from an electrical supply house that I deal with since I am an electrician by trade and these are used to anchor electric poles for service entrances. These anchors can hold up to just about anything you throw at them. My mega tree has held up to 75 MPH winds using these anchors with 3/8" buy wire cables on it with no trouble at all. The tree has 96 strands of C6 - 60 count strings on it so it has a fairly big wind drag on it.I use a rotary hammer drill that I have to turn them in when I set up the tree and then to remove them in the spring.Of course it really depends on the type of soil you have as to what type of anchor will work the best for you. I have a very sandy soil is the reason to use the longer anchors but then again I don't want to have to worry about things.Bill
Rich
I use the spiral dog tie-out stake to guy wire my 15 foot mega tree. They look like a giant corkscrew with a triangle shaped loop on top. You can find them at Lowes or Home Depot near the chain area. They run about $4.00 each.
CKSedg
I tie mine to a tree, the railing on the porch, and two stakes.
