RS485 Adapter

I am brand new at this. Just got my Controllers and RS485 Adapter and I am having trouble finding info on set up of the Adapter on a PC running Window 07. All the manuals and info on LOR site refers to how to on Vista, XP and Windows 98.

Is there any update info on the set up and trouble shooting for Window 07? So I tried XP set up.
When I go to LOR Hardware on the LOR software program the "Select Unit to configure Download Test" shows "Comm1 error" What do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks, cliff

Yes, I had already done that. Went right by the manual.

Put in the LOR cd for drivers for USB and had everything pluged in as you stated. I also had one of the controllers pluged in with the Cat5 cable. When it did not work took everything apart and tried again. Still got same message "comm 1 error".

Only thing I could come up with is maybe there was something different about Window 07 setup and that the drivers were not loaded or it was picking up wrong driver, but I don't know how to check that. Do you?

Anyother ideas?

Just to make sure go to the device manager and verify that you have driver 2.8.14 for your USB serial converter.

If you do start the hardware utility with a controller connected and turned on. Click "auto configure" under setup comm port. It will find and assign your comm port, even though at start of hardware utility it gives the error message.

Com 1 Error generally means either something else is using Com 1 already or the RS485 got a Com port higher than 10.. plug in -just- the RS485, then go into Control Panel, Device Mgr, then USB Controllers (bottom of the Device tree screen), click on the + to expand the tree, click on the -485, click Properties, check/change the Com port to something low.. Com 5 or lower is recommended. That should fix it.

Once the proper Com port's set, then you should be able to plug in the controller. First go to Max Unit ID (top right corner), click Change button, slide it down to ..3 or 4 (it'll take a LONG time to search for your unit if you dont)

Then in the Set Com Port (left side) you can choose Auto Configure, or manually set it if you remember what it was from Device Mgr above.

Set Unit ID's. Select Number, pick a unit number, should be 1 for just a single unit. Plug in only one at a time and number accordlingly if you have multiple units.
