One last ? about sequencing strobes

I just ordered my strobes from CLS today(3-4/sec Incans) so I can't test them but I would like to finish my sequences for halloween. I've read a few posts about turning them on early, like a second before you want them to fire. I know you don't precharge them like the LED strobes, but exactly how early do you turn them on. Should I sequence them at exactly a second early or is it a different amount of time.

I turn mine on about 1/4 sec early. They all wont turn on at the same time. But that seems to be the best in my case.

Personally, for the same reason that Cracker mentions about them firing at different intervals, I don't worry about starting them early. But if you're gonna do it, I'd say that a full second is waaaay too long. I'd recommend for you to wait and see them in action first before you do something that drastic.

I don't fire them early, they always seem to kick off just right. I have CDI incans and some CLS incans, both seem to work great sequencing them right when they need to go off.

I use CLS strobes also and don't need to turn them on early. The first ones seem to come on nearly instantly. Probably more of an issue from a sequencing standpoint is that they randomly trickle off after you turn them off. You will get a few stragglers do a single flash up to about a second after you turn them off. Assume it has to do with the capacitor that is holding a charge. Just like they randomly start (so some starting 0.5-1 second after you turn them on), they tend to randomly stop also (similarly some 0.5-1 second later).

I'm in the same boat with Cracker. I turn mine on .2 seconds early, which gets them firing just when I need them.

(On the other hand, if you use a DMX strobe, fire it exactly when you need it).

Thanks for the info. I just decided to add strobes to my display a couple days ago, so all I had to do In my sequences was go in and add the strobes. I finished doing that to the finished sequences last night. I went as close to .20-.25 early as I could without adding a timing mark and its not like anyone will be able to tell if they are off by a 10th of a second. Thanks for the info and I can't wait till friday when they are supposed to show up.
