rhino
I'll admit that I have strictly been a post-Christmas sale junkie for lights at Walmart, Target, and the like. Anything I can find. Mostly incandescents, but trying to break into the LED world. Well, the inventories have greatly shrunk at the Walmarts, Targets, etc where one cannot "stock up" with great success on Dec 26. So, I'm trying to convince myself to "buy online", and I'm finding a LOT of variations:Std Grade vs Comm Grade4" centers vs 6" vs other25 count vs 35 count vs 50 count vs 70 count vs 100 countSocketable vs non-socketableNumber of strings that can be attachedWith all that said, what bulb distance have you used, what do you prefer, and why?Just measured several strings of my incandescents, and they seem to be all 4" (or near that) apart.(I have always done thousands of lights in static displays, with dedicated power for most of the display. Trying to branch out to the animated, led world.)
LORi P
rhino wrote: With all that said, what bulb distance have you used, what do you prefer, and why? Personally, I think I prefer the 6 inch. I have found that often 4 inch is over-kill for what I am trying to do and the bulbs end up almost on top of each other. But I might be in the minority around here - it seems like more people fall into the category of the more the better.....But most importantly (to me) LEDS are expensive. So my preference would be 6" spacing.... lets you cover 33% more distance than 4" spacing. Makes good 'cents' to me. And I have found that many of the LEDs at Walmart, Big Lots, and Menards have a 3" spacing..... So they are even shorter for the same number of bulbs. So the big-box stores 25% and 50% off sales don't save you as much (per-foot) as you think.Several months ago, looking for LEDs on-line I was finding both 4" and 6" spacing, but now I can no longer find 6" spacing... where are you finding 6" spacing? JBullard
I only use LEDs.None from the retail stores, only on-line presales.I normally use 4" for most projects but keep 2", 2 1/2" and 6" in inventory also.

Great to know. Do you use multiple online vendors? Or, stick to one or two?

Excellent information!I found 6" spacing at:allthingschristmasandmore.com -- 25 countsnoveltylights.com -- 100 counts being discontinued and will be offering 50 counts.Oops! I should mention that I'm looking at 5MM LEDs. Hope this helps.
