mcmason Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I am trying to make lightning, and have seen it done with flood lights and strobes. Just wondering if I can use halogen white flood lights. Will those turn on/off fast enough (.05 seconds)?Which type lasts the longest using them like that? Halogen, incandescent, LED (still a bit expensive).Any advise on each of them as far as ability to turn on/off fast and ability to last a while w/out burning out when used that way would be great. Thanks in advance.
Powers_Ronald Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I have used regular flood lights in my past display, but I am switching over to LED flood lights this year. The LEDs are solid state, so they are instant on/off and do not have a filament to burn out. They are an RGB kit and reasonably priced ($25). You would still need a DC controller (CMB-16D-QC) and a power supply. I am also using smaller spot lights ($12 per kit).I beleive that there will be flood lights in the CCD to be released soon, but do not know for certain.
mcmason Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Sorry, by regular flood lights do you mean incandescent or halogen?
-klb- Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I've been using some LED wall washers the last several years with great results. My first choice would be the fast response times of the LED floodlights.
scubado Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I use 10W brite white led lights. You can also get 20-100W leds with enclosure on ebay. Expect 3 weeks delivery for stardard shipping.
bfrd22 Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I'm using 5 incan out door noma floods, the effect is quite good, but needed some pop, so I added 2 non led strobes for that extra pop and flash. Used the VU wizard to program the flashes.
