Dan C Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Hey everybody, Just thought I'd share something.I was having trouble getting accurate measurements of my house to figure out how many CCB's I need to buy when they come out. Rather than use the old school method of a tape measure, I'd go ultra high tech and Laser scan it in 3D!!!Scanner: HDS6000 from Leica3D Point cloud data from scanner. (I cleaned the tree in the front yard out for clarity).Pretty cool huh? Now I just need to build the 3D model in Architectural Desktop and I've got an accurate model to design off of.I wonder if there will be anyway I can incorporate this into the new Visualizer?
Jim Saul Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Nice! Do I dare ask what that toy costs?

Dan C's vote count would easily surpass Jim S's post count...JeffThat's saying a lot right there.
BrownOut Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Does this mean I can't trust my tape measure? Nice toy you have there.By the way... do you know how many CCBs you could have bought? Oh right- none. They don't exist yet.
LORi P Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Hey Dan C -Are you a surveyor or do you just play one on TV? I work with airborne laser scanners.http://lidar.cr.usgs.gov/LORi
Dan C Posted September 22, 2011 Author Posted September 22, 2011 Hey guys and Gal,I work for a Laser Scanning company called Optira. This is what I do for a living. I borrowed the scanner (With permission) to do my house.Honestly though, its overkill for Christmas lights, but if anyone out there owns any property or buildings that they would like documented, scanned, modeled, 2D or 3D drawings created. We can do that.We work in just about every type of environment too. Architectural, Structural, Civil, Piping, Nuclear, High security, Federal, Historical Preservation etc. If you are serious, please by all means give me a call at my office. 402-614-2220 ext. 210.Thanks!
Dan C Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Well, I finished the 3D Model of my house. Here's a rendered screen shot.I removed the tree in the front for clarity as it blocked most of the house.and the ground is cut off at the property line.
