Well i had an MRI done on my knee. 2 severely torn minincus, ACL completely gone and tibula has moved out of place. So reconstructive surgery needed. Bummer!!! I was wondering how to get the word out. I have already posted on my website and facebook pages. I was thinking about having Kevin The demented elf put something together i can play for those who come by saying sorry etc. Any other ideas on how to get the word out. I am depressed, was going to start putting out display in 2 weeks and all programming is done and ready.
Thanks for any advice.

I am sorry to hear about your knee problems and hope everything comes out OK for you. I wouldn't give up on this year's show. I would look around for help in getting it set up. Look to your neighbors for help. Talk to your local weekly newspaper to do an article on your situation. I think you will be suprised how many people in your area love and look forward to your show. I would think that plenty of people would show up to help you get it set up.

I'm so sorry Don, when is the surgery? I had a VERY similar diagnosis and surgery last month. I ended up not have the ACL repaired, and have been walking for the last 2 weeks with no cane, so hang in there....

Bummer about the knee. Had mine replaced in May 2010. I found going up and down the ladder was theraputic (and a pain). Enlist your friends and neighbors for a weekend or two. Tell them it's just for a couple hours each. You'd be surprised that once they are there, they get into it and tend to want to help even more. Also, it is good to have some different opinions on where elements of your display should go.
The knee problems are depressing enough. You shouldn't have to "skip Christmas" because of it. You will be even more depressed. Round up your help now.

I will be having my knee replaced in March...I wanted to wait until after the holidays, and my 10th anniversary in February...I feel your pain my friend..at 47, a knee replacement is all bad, but having bone on bone, and constant pain...ain't any good either!:(

A show for me this year is not looking good either. In the military and will be moving end of October, so don't know if 1) the place I am renting will allow it and 2) if i will have time to get one together. Pretty bummed.

I lost my teen age son this year to a college move. I am considering hiring a younger friend of his who stil lives in town to help. Even if it costs me a $100 or so, it will be money well spent.

If you don't know any kids who will work for you, check with your church or even an athletic coach at your local high school. They usually know who can be depended on to actually help and be reliable.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I already talked to Kevin "The demented Elf" he is going to make something up for me. I thought about having a couple of friends do it but it is a huge undertaking as you all know. I live in a court and no one but me decorates. I figured I have a huge jump on 2012. This is my 4th surgery on this knee. Shattered the knee and broke lower leg 15 years ago and it lets me know it from time to time. This will be the 2nd ACL for it. I have an appt on Friday at 9am with the surgeon. I am going to try to put off till December. I am a self employed General Contractor and just started a major remodel about a month ago. Should be done by Thanksgiving the I will do surgery.
Thanks again everyone.

Hey Don,

Sorry to hear about the knee and your display. A bunch of us in the South Bay, not too far from you (Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Santa Clara) get together to collaborate on our light shows. You may have seen some of our displays, there is Steve from bluebonnetlights.com and Dave from severex.com/xmas. Myself, Ryan, from winterholidayhouse.com and Scott from lewislights.com and Andy and Doug and George, etc. etc.

Anyway, my point is that maybe a couple of us that know a thing or two about light shows can help you out. We could have a get together one day and help set up your display that way you could still run your show this year. If interested, PM me and I can see about rounding up the gang.

That is an awesome offer. I really appreciate the gesture. The problem with my display it had gotten huge a couple hundred come by every night and I usually stray outside and hand out candy canes and talk to everyone. I handed out 3000 candy canes last year. I figured I will just skip this year and go all out next year. I was already going to add 12 ccr's to this year. So next year will have that plus a lot more. Thanks again for the offer. If you need to borrow controllers I have 28 of them 1602w

Don-

I am sorry about your situation... But I would take reyebred's offer.. But maybe tone it back a lot.. Look at some of your old sequences maybe... Just put something out there, along with that add the voice over between the songs..
I would rather see something than nothing.. Just my $.02

Do,
Good luck! I understand the problem I am sitting here with a long arm cast and about a half a dozen staples. I nearly ripped the tendon at my elbow in half right at the bone. I am hoping to get enough healing time to get a good start.
