Best way to use Strobes

Hi, Another newbie question,
As this year is bringing lots of new features for me it is very exciting, first year with arches, and 2 col mini trees, also strobes.
Strobes are an element I haven’t used before and struggling to visualise....
Just wondering if you can give me some advice on how you use strobes in your sequences/shows. Something says to me to use them sparingly so that they have a wow factor when they come on. I actually have not seen them working, and won’t get mine til late in the setup stage so won’t have time to play... At this point I will have a string of ten strobes on one channel positioned randomly in a dark corner of my display...
Do they need to be on for a certain length of time to be effective?
Any comments / thoughts appreciated :D

You are right--brief periods of time for a WOW effect. I bet most of my songs have them on for only 5-10 seconds per song. Usually at a climactic point in the song. In the sequence, they must be on 100% or else you risk damaging the strobe. If using Xenon strobes, they will randomize immediately and they turn on nearly instantly. When you test them, do so outside since they will seem embarrassingly bright the first time you light them if you do it inside since the light reflects off the walls. :D

When in doubt, never hurts to watch Holdman's videos for ideas since his programming skills are amazing.

EXACTLY!!! I'm using mine during the "magic" type feel, "sparkle" or indeed the WOW factor. Finales are also a great spot.
