pyromill Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 ccr... 150 channels.. pretty close to logic level control off the ic in the pixels as a guess.. I do not own a ccr nor will I most likely ever own one... unless it gets much cheaper but.... 150 channels 50 each color.. alot of work cutting and splicing.. but.. could a person take a ccr slice and dice it add some ssr's and make it a 150 channel controller on the cheap? ya you wreck a $200~250 item... but.. 150 channels with leftovers from diy stuff around, if you have parts laying around for say a couple hundred ssr channels... figure pc kits on sale at 89 bucks... 16 channels each board .. $834 bucks for pc to get 150 channels.. but how about a ccr cut to shreads adding what a whole 50-100 bucks of parts.. and getting 150 channels... anyone else out there thought this crazy ? or am I yet again left alone in trying to lower the cost per channel seeking really far out idea's ? ???
DownTown Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I think it's a GREAT idea! I think you should go ahead and get a CCR, chop it up, and make one. Then let us know how it goes. Make sure you take lots of pics of the progress, and keep us posted on how you are making out! We want to see it all!D.T.(you realize that cutting up the CCR will probably void the warranty, right?)
-klb- Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Also, the CCR are driving DC LED, so use high frequency PWM dimming. You can't drive triacs with PWM, as they only turn off at zero current, which is usually at the voltage zero crossing. A MOSFET could be used for AC PWM, but then you need two, one for positive cycle, and one for negative cycle. And you need the special driver stage that pumps a lot of charge in and out of the gate rapidly.
DownTown Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Dang, klb, you might have just ruined the fun! I was waiting to see the pics of the chopped up CCR D.T.
