What do I need?

I plan to order 2 ctb169c partially assembled and one show time generic package.

I plan to run the show from a PC. I know I need speakers.

What else do I need?

What do I need to connect the 2 controllers together?

How far apart can I place the 2 controllers?

Assuming you mean 2 CTB16PC controllers. What do you mean by a showtime generic package? You know you don't have to have a Showtime controller, right? You can use 3 CTB16PC controllers instead. Or do you mean you plan on 2 PC controllers and going to add a generic starter package, such as here: http://store.lightorama.com/spk800.html

That is basically all you need (can obviously add on speakers and/or FM transmitter). Need lots of lights and extension cords, and time to sequence.

The total distance of your LOR network can be 2000 - 4000 feet, depending on the wire type - CAT5E will give you further reach than standard phone cable. Also, if you are using the SC485 Serial Adapter, the connection from the computer to the first controller needs to be under 100 feet. If you are using the USB485 or USB485B USB Adapter, the 100' limit does not apply. [can go up to 4000' with the USB adapters]
