Integrating Video with your sequence.

I am planning on adding video this year and I have a few questions.

1. What projector are you using. I am looking at projectors that allow you to turn it on/off by a light switch (or in my case by an lor controller)

2. What video card are you using?

3. What processor and memory for the video overhead?

4. What type of file works best (avi, mpeg, etc)?

5. How is your screen setup to keep the wind from destroying it and what types of material for the screen etc?

6. Anyone ever put the projector in some sort of inclosure outside or is the setup always rear projection?

7. Does your wife think you've lost your mind too?

1. 2000 ANSI Lumens Minimum
2. Not done yet myself-
3. You want to have a 2.0 GHZ or Higher, and 2Gig memory
4. To work with LOR you want to use WMV.
5. One of the most common 'screens' from the various forums I've seen is a transluscent Shower Curtain found on Amazon
6. Everyone seems to keep it indoors- the weather risk and the theft risk seems to make sense.
7. Not quit- but she thinks I'm getting close....

So rear projection onto a shower curtain? Any idea which one on Amazon?

I built a frame with 2x4s and stapled a shower curtain liner (frosted) on it. I got the shower curtain liner from WM.

Something like this.

Cool, thanks. Can you answer the questions below?

1. What projector are you using. I am looking at projectors that allow you to turn it on/off by a light switch (or in my case by an lor controller) I am using a NEC VT480. It's 2000 lumens. You actually have to push a button on mine for it to come on. Would love to have one that would come on by itself (light switch).

2. What video card are you using? I am using a GeForce 8400GS with 256MB on board. I select my 2nd monitor (projector) to play full screen video on.

3. What processor and memory for the video overhead? My show computer is 2.7 Ghz dual-core with 4GB ram

4. What type of file works best (avi, mpeg, etc)? All my video files are .wmv. Not sure if that works best, but I don't have any playing problems with it.

I recommend all your videos start and end with whatever your show computer background is set to. IE black, or picture. Ours all start and end with a still 'Christmas' picture that says "Merry Christmas from the Robersons". This is also our show computer background. The reason for this is what happens the brief moments between sequences. When a sequence is done it will release the video player and the computer background with show on the projector. If the videos start and end with whatever the background is set to then there is just a little flicker on the video screen. Sometimes no flicker at all between sequences. Not sure how to eliminate this all together, but have gotten it down to almost nothing.

The actual video area is 3'x5'. It just stands in the yard with the nylon ropes you see anchored in a V pattern on each end of it. Have never had a problem with wind or rain.

Our projector sets inside our office projecting thru the window onto the screen. The curtain liner is just stapeled to the wood on the backside.

Looks bigger in your videos! How is the shower curtain secured to the frame?

My videos use a little bit of 'trickery' to make the video look better in the 'video'.

Our video camera does not capture the video on the screen very well. So I use a picture in a picture video to paste the actual video onto the screen in our videos of our lights.

It is however actually very clear in real life. Our viewing area (the road) is about 50' away from the video screen. I have had people ask me how I keep our LCD TV secure and dry out in the yard. : )

Paul,
that is funny, I thought that video was overlayed, it looked too clear!

Very nice job on the frame and video, looks great.
