chowell
I have been using my notebook the past 3 years to program and run my shows. It is an older unit with Windows XP. I figure it is time to make the swap to a newer unit. Regarding the controllers, what all is involved with the switch? Will I need to do some type of an upgrade to the controllers like firmware? If so, what is the best way to do so? I have 16 - 1602w's. Do I need to plug them in and chain them all together or do them each separately?Just looking for input to make the transition as smooth as possible. Thanks in advance.Corey

Does not matter if you are running XP or Windows 7. The controllers could care less.As far as updating the firmware on controllers. It is recommended that you that you have only one at a time hooked up.
chowell
Ok thanks. I guess what I'm asking is will the controllers not run properly without a firmware update or does the firmware not have anything to do with the operating system? Thanks again.Corey

Jim Saul
Hey Corey are you using the old laptop for anything else? If not, why not just clean up the xp machine and make it the dedicated show computer? You can install the software onto your new win 7 computer to sequence, but leave the XP one for running the shows.
paulanator
Hey Corey,Jim has the right idea, run the show on an old XP machine and use the Win 7 for sequencing. There is really not much different in Windows 7, except the file location.Be aware, if you are not, that the My Docs & LOR folder is in a different location in Windows 7.Windows XP is something likeC:Documents and SettingsPaulMy DocumentsLight-O-Ramaand your Windows 7 will be likeC:UsersPaulDocumentsLight-O-Rama

khawes
I have a lor.bat in my startup folder that looks like this:@subst s: c:drop_boxLight-O-Ramaon my sequencing and my show computer.LOR is setup to use S: for all my files.Dropbox is configured to sync across the lan, and handles backing up for me too.Full disclosure: if you use http://db.tt/mli9Ukq to signup for dropbox we both get an extra 250 MB of space. chowell
Thanks for all the input guys. I have just grown tired over the last 3 years on using the notebook. I actually use a larger monitor so it helps but the notebook has a loud fan in it and for some reason it is just getting to me this year. The new computer is an all-in-one touch screen so it is almost as mobile as the notebook. I would just hate to do a bunch of work on the new one and have it not work at setup time. If you guys think of anything else please let me know. Thanks much!!!Corey

Jim Saul
With dropbox you have to install the software to get the extra space. You should not have to upload anything, just install the software, and log in with the software.
