George Simmons
A fellow LORer from Minnesota, Mike Schmidt, told me about the Pyrotechnic Guild International's annual convention this past week and the spectacular public fireworks shows they put on during the week of the convention. He wasn't kidding, or overselling the shows in any way... WOW! is about the best word to describe it. I've seen a lot of fireworks displays during my lifetime, but none better than what I saw last night. And hats off to Mike for the splendidly choreographed 9/11 tribute show that he fired as part of the main event. Definitely makes the fireworks around the forum here about as significant as a cheap Chinese firecracker...For those of you who also like pyro displays, which I suspect is probably most of the people who hang around here, if you can ever get to a public show during a PGI annual convention somewhere, DO IT - you won't be disappointed. It's well worth the hotel and gas cost to get there. Next year, they're having the convention in Indiana in August.I'd like to get to ICE sometime. Boy, wouldn't it be nice if ICE happened to be scheduled during that same time...
scubado
We have a company around here called Thundercat that puts on one hell of a good show. The best place for them is a 1/2 mile race track near me. The fireworks are launched below you from the infield and explode just above you and you feel the full impact. This year they didn't get a sponsor for Thundercat fireworks and some other company was there, the show was very lame. It was so bad, the crowd silence was deafening. The track won't make that mistake again.
magish01
I am licensed and fire BIG fireworks shows (including sports venues). If you are on the left (West Coast), Western Pyrotechnic Association has an annual "Winterblast" held in Lake Havasu, AZ in Jan/Feb. Some of the large fireworks companies pool their resources and have a HUGE display at the end of their member meeting.
