Interesting, these are about 1/2 the price of an EDM transmitter which my wife would like to hear. I'm curious how many of you guys have one of these and your thoughts on them.

I used a simular model for 2 years. Last season the unit had a problem with low output. But in saying that, most all that have them have had no problems. I believe my issue was 'someone' dropped the antenna resulting in damage to a transistor.

you know I thought I would have a problem with the soldering iron but it is so easy a monkey could do it, I am using the EDM, was scared to solder but after listening to the guys on the forum decided to tackle it, it was easy, I have no idea how the two compare but after I soldered mine I gave it a test run and man it is unbelievable.

Guy on other side of neighborhood has the 5W version and it's ridiculously too powerful. You can hear it 5 miles away.

Don,

How difficult was the project?

Can you expound on it a bit?

Lot of soldering,or minimal?

Thanks for any info.

Joe I was just like you always asking questions I was terrified to try and solder this thing it was so easy I can not tell you how easy it was there was three little tabs that had to be soldered I am not an expert at soldering as a matter of fact I haven't soldered for 38 years I believe junior high school in shop was the last time, when the EDM arrived I opened up the box and downloaded the directions I think it took me about 2 minutes to solder and I am being gracious when I say 2 minutes maybe 1 it really is easy. ;)

I just got the 0.5 Watt VILLA FM TRANSMITTER from HLLY. It arrived yesterday. A quick test found it crystal clear .25 miles away with the antenna it came with (and not even placed that high.... as far as my display can be seen, and then some! It is $90 cheaper than the HLLY TX-01S that you are looking at. Something to consider. I'll post again after I've had a chance to test more.

Given how far my 0.5 W transmits, 1.5W may be a bit of over-kill.

$98 + $2.50 shipping = $100.50

AWESOME! Guess I'll have to hook everything up and test my LOR unit now and see if I want to upgrade to this one instead.
Mine only has to transmit about 50ft.

Tested my whole house transmitter yesterday when I got home. I had it all set up in our computer room, and it was scratchy just to the driveway (probably 30ft.).
Once I connected the antenna extender, it was fine. I'm not going to trash it.
I am going to purchase this one that Lori has as a backup. I really don't need to transmit any further than 50, maybe 75 feet.

It seems like this thread is now getting a little old and maybe you made your decision already. That's a good demo and the transmitter seems to have some nice features for the price, but it lacks RDS capability. If that is not important to you, then it seems to have everything else.

Actually, it seems far to powerful. 1.5 Watts will typically transmit a couple of miles. I hope you are on friendly terms with the FCC or live so far out in the woods that they won't find you :-) I suggest cranking the power down to level 1 o 2 (100 to 200 milliwatts). That is all you will need.
