OMG!

This is my second year and currently updating last years songs. I just played back one of the songs I whipped together just to get another song on the playlist. OMG, it was some horrible sequencing. I got a lot of resequencing to do on this one.

Kind of sobering, isn't it? I'll bet we've all been there. I keep my P.O.S. early sequence around, for those times I need a reality check.

Don't worry too much about it. I am still finding small stuff I want to tweak in sequences done 3 years ago. I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of us are always fine tuning our sequences. You should always remember that you are your worst critic; to the average viewer your sequences are the kewlest thing ever.

Your not the only one, my wife actually made me remove Blue Christmas by Elvis I was heartbroken but realized she was right it totally sucked (even to this day I have not even tried to fix that sequence it was really bad) :D

I agree, my first sequence was horrible. Sequencing was off.

My biggest rookie blunder: I didn't know how to make the sequence editor not play from the beginning so I sequenced about 80% of thriller by starting from the beginning each time (took a while).

Same here, despite daughter being a big EP fan Blue Christmas was the first sequence to hit the swirly water. Next was Helm's version of Jingle Bell Rock, replaced with new version by Julianne Hough.

Not only were my first sequences bad -- so was the attempt to record them on video. At least you had that part figured out!!!

(I got better, but then I learned not to leave the video on the camera or it gets deleted on the next vacation! Ha!)

Funny, I finished all my sequencing for this year.. Now I am going back and "tweaking" my first song.. It turns out it is so bad, I am redoing the whole thing.. Oh the newbie blues!

Boy can I relate to this one too! I copied and pasted some of my 2010 Halloween sequences into this years new setup and when compared to the 2011 Sequences I created this year, they weren't all that bad, but they weren't all that great either, at least not from my perspective now, but when I first did them, wow, I thought they were fantastic....little did I know...LOL Sometimes it just takes a little historical checking and a wake up call to realize "Did I really sequence that?" ROFL

So I definitely have improved quite a lot from where I was in 2010. Now reminiscing on some of the comments I read about some of my sequencing last year, which I couldn't see then, sure POP OUT and hit you smack in the face when comparing them to what I've accomplished with the new sequences this year in 2011.

Still consider myself a newbie since this is only my 2nd year with this and the 3rd show (1st was Halloween 2010, then Christmas 2010). And I'm still improving on my techniques and skills on sequencing and getting this all to work and look good.

So I'll say this to the new folks, if you get some constructive criticism commentary on your sequence or suggestions on how to improve them, don't take it too hard, next year, look back at what you did and you may just find out (like I did and Scubado) that some of those sequences just weren't as great as you thought they were originally! And to those offering the constructive criticisms, try not to blatantly point out the imperfections, instead try to put it in a manner that will make the person want to continue sequencing and with the hobby.

So many times the written word is just misunderstood and we end up creating hard or hurt feelings and may make the person want to leave the hobby, been there, know how it feels. So we all need to try and be a little more careful in how we word ideas, suggestions or changes to the newbies on the block coming into this fantastic and very rewarding hobby. After all, we do want the hobby to grow and expand, not stifle or kill it off.

Well said Orville. I know you have gotten a little beaten up on this forum not too long ago, but I'm glad you 'weathered it'.

Sometimes ideas are brought up that aren't so smart as we thought and might get picked on for it, but don't stop throwing out ideas, it might spark some better ideas, or someone's been there, done that to help you out.

Well I must say that my first year, two years ago, my sequences were just perfect! But the second year, after I looked at them, they looked like poo poo!!!!! It is amazing how we think we got every thing right, and the next year we say "How did I let people actually look at this @#$%"! Each year we grow, and hopefully learn, at least I hope I do. On to a better year this year.
