JimCanfield
Is there a special cable running from the usb 485 jack to the usb on the computer? I have a generic cable but lor hardware is finding 0 units.
JimCanfield
Looks like a mini usb to usb connector, is that correct? If so, can I use any one then?
Don
Do you have the USB drivers installed? You can download and re-install if needed.http://www.lightorama.com/downloads/CDM20600.exeBe sure all LOR programs are closed and your adapter is unplugged. After you run the program, then start the Hardware Utility to test.

Don
You can get the cable anywhere. Nothing special about the cable. When you connect the USB adapter, are you getting any indication the computer is seeing it? (Check your Device Manager to see.)If not, run the FTClean utility. It's been a while since I've run it, so use at your own risk. Link good for 24 hours. http://bit.ly/njLxXs
cmoore60
I also believe that initially to get the adapter all configured in the hardware utility you have to have a controller hooked up to the adapter.I think the HWU actually is looking for the controller when it finding the settings.Chuck
JimCanfield
My controller was on and blinking, is that what it was supposed to be doing?
JimCanfield
My stuff is at church so I'll try that link tomorrow
cmoore60
The controller should blink until the hardware utility makes the connection. It is possible that windows and the driver defined the comm port for your adapter outside the range that the HWU will scan for. With the adapter plugged in the computer. You will need to navigate to the device manager. The method of navigating varies a bit with the version of windows. When you get in the device manager you will look for an item called "ports" Open that up and it should have a port define as the FTD port. You can click on that and then properties. You should be able to see what comm port it is assigned to.From this point you have a couple of options as I recall.First, reassigne to a lower portSecond, manually enter the port that the adapter is assigned to in the HWU.Chuck
George Simmons
Edit - Chuck got the whole story in while I was typing a partial response.
MikeH
It's been a while but, I think you're supposed to install the drivers first then connect the USB. Otherwise Windows will assign its own drivers to the USB.MikeH
JimCanfield
I found my original disc to install the adapter. Is there a way to clear the drivers ans ports as if I never installed it and start from new?I'll look tomorrow in the device manager and see what I can find. Im sure the usb ports are working because I can use my mouse in them.

Max-Paul
One thing I saw that was incorrect and has been mentioned several times in the past. Your USB cable between the computer and the adapter needs to have those warts on the wire at both ends near the connector. Some people in the past have had problems with dropped data and it was cleared up each time by using the cable with the warts in the cable.Otherwise I agree fully with the help information that the other gents have provided.
