Irish Christmas Music

I have decided to go to my heritage a little and try to find some Irish or Celtic Christmas music. The problem is I am really having a hard time finding anything that is good. Anyone out there have any recommendations?

Well, pick up the Celtic Woman CD for one. A lot of the music is standard fare, but some pieces are of Irish origin, I believe. Regardless, the music is excellent!

An excellent choice. It's on my list to sequence, as well. Another good one from the same group is "Christmas Pipes".

Did the Irish Rovers ever do any Christmas music?

(I'm assuming they actually were Irish..)..

For 20 bonus points, name their biggest (maybe only?) US hit...circa 1960s...

Cray-
I had a hard time choosing.. I haven't done a song with a lot of vocals, mainly I do not know what to do.. I have a funny feeling I will struggle with this.. If I can get a concept on what to do during the vocals, everything will be good. And perhaps I can expand my sequencing beyond the 11 completed songs. Any tips?

Do as you have done in your other songs without vocals...

sequence the beat, the instruments and all the other things you have already done...

try to not let the vocals get in your way...

Arnold:

Jim beat me to it. His answer would be my suggestion at this point. Except that the song you've picked has little of the melody in the instruments. BUT there are very definite points where light changes might be indicated.

I usually will include the vocals as "instruments". Literally, I don't worry so much about the words as the individual notes/pitches. (Of course, the words might dictate what color or element I light up.) The other thing to remember is that you don't have to have a light change or event for every note.

The piece I mentioned ("Christmas Pipes") would lend itself to a "swaying" action of the lights (or a collection of elements) -- something where it's "one side on, then the other side on and the first side off, then back to the first side on" and so on. The video link below is from my first year with LOR. It is Celtic Woman doing "The Carol of the Bells".

Last year, I did Bing Crosby doing "Do You Hear What I Hear" -- a little challenging with the voice. So I used a line of 9 three-color (clear, red and green) mini trees. I assigned a tree to each pitch he used. Then tried to mimic the audible strength of each word by varying the intensity of the light on that tree. (Sorry, the video is unavailable at this time.) Come to think of it, "Christmas in Killarny [sic]" is also on my ToDo list . . .
