utb ghost
Have grand plans to sequence many more songs. Have been "cheating" using purchased sequences expanded to my 80 channels for lack of time the past two years. Prefer to do my own if I have time. Most of my available sequencing time is away from my desktopSo I need to buy a laptop, and am wondering what Windows version I need. My desktop which runs my current show is an old Dell with Windows XP.My software I believe is S 2.3.8.I'd still run the show from the desktop ( I think) but I spend so much time travelling I'd like to work on sequences on the road from a new laptop I have yet to purchase.Any advise? JBullard
When LOR S3 is released it will require Windows XP or newer.DevMike - a LOR programmer - recently made this statement:Primary testing (and the 'target' machine) we designed for was done on a Pentium 4 @2.33 ghz with 512 meg of ram,and a 32 meg video card - a machine that is about 10 years old. On that machine we were able to comfortably simulate 1760 RGB channels (11 CCRs).
bisquit476
I use an Acer netbook, works fine, although the screen is kinda small. So from there up should work for you.
utb ghost
Thanks,My Dell is Pentium 4 with 3.06GHz purchased at least 8 years ago ......My bro-in-law advised me to overkill on memory and such at the time, so I'm confident now the desktop will hold out.But I still need a laptop for the road (hesitant to use my work one with LOR software on it - they get fussy these days with non approved stuff). If I hear you correctly, Windows XP, or later versions ( Vista?) are functional with the LOR software. I was recalling that perhaps XP was it, but I suppose they are now compatibl ewith Vista?
utb ghost
Thanks - mostly concerned about the comaptability of the software with Windows XP, or I suppose anything I buy now will have Vista.I don't think I can get a new laptop with XP on it these days but I haven't looked - only heard that. jstorms
Have used XP and Win7 both work great with S2.Pretty much any laptop works fine. Haven't tried a netbook, but the keyboard is a little small anyhow.I've used an old HP laptop, Dell Latitude (old and new).

paulanator
For my sequencing, I use a seriously powerful system with Windows 7 on it, 12GB Ram, etc, and of course it works great, but that is my main computer anyway.I have sequenced with a newer Laptop with windows 7, 6 GB RAM, works great as would be expeceted. These are of course way overkill, but they are the machines I use for my business. It also runs great on an old Dell with Windows XP.My show machine is an old Dell Optiplex, 512 MB RAM, with an add in audio card. I also run Zara radio and weather reports with that XP machine. Works flawless.I do like to have a dedicated machine for the show, so nothing happens to it throughout the duration of the show. Also, a clean install of the operating system or just a good clean system, will make a huge difference. Startups, processes and other malware junk will really slow a machine down, especially if it is an old machine and has never been reloaded.I just reloaded a couple of old XP laptops with 512mb of RAM and both of those babies were flying super fast compared to before the reload. So it is not just the requirements, but also the condition of the machine, IMHO.I have found no issues programming on my Windows 7 and copying the stuff over to and running the show on XP. utb ghost
Thanks, work laptop is a Dell Latitude with XP and it always worked well - just don't want the software on there.Desktop is a Dell. Not o start a "computer war" but I have never had issues with a series of Dell's for work, and this desktop is at least 8 years old.I might just get a Dell laptop of my own .......as insane as travelling with two might be, one for work, one for sequencing .... utb ghost
Thanks .......Good tidbit on the reload. This old machine does ahve excess junk and gunk on it that I know of, let alone the unknown. But it still delivered a good show last few years .....I just was curious about the op systems and software. Good to know you had no issues sequencing on one and running on the other.
