John (oldandslow)
Jim, If you want to spend some time as I did by taking each bulb out you will find that some bulbs have a rusted prong preventing a good contact. This will cause a section to be dimmed or out completly if more than one on the same side is rusted. I used a exacto knife to clean the prongs. I also took the time to take a fifty light set apart and rewire it to make two 25 sets of leds. Each set has a rectifier on one end and a plug from a old set of lights. Each would only be two wires.I tested the lights by burning them for three hours along with a regular string and found no difference in the light output compared to the full string. The normal lights are wired with one wire going from plug to plug the other wire goes continuous from light to light. The third wire connects the lights in series ie the bulb with 3 wires in it.John
Dan Ancona
Jim, I did the same as John did the other day. I also used a shot of contact cleaner and light spray of WD40. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth the time...But, hey, I'm cheap.
