What type of controller?? You can go to LOR hardware and open it, after you hook up your controller, auto configure for comm port, top left side, and then set your unit I.D. If you got it from LOR it should be already set, look for a number on the case or on the inside. If I missed something, I'm sure someone will fill in what I left out.

Ron beat me to it.

Start up the Sequence Editor then press F1 to bring up the help menu. The hardware utility is probaby the easiet thing to figure out. Just play around with it. There's not much to do there unless you're setting up/configuring a controller or testing lights. Is there something in particular you're wanting to know?

Alright, you two beat me to it.

Actually there is a lot more to it, if you're using an LOR mini-Director or DC-MP3 Showtime director, you can also use it to set up your shows for those director units. You also use the HW Utility to set up testing your LOR RF options (like the ELL's), Digital I/O boards and the X-10 protocols if you use X-10 items.

So I'd say the HW utility has a lot of useful features, but the newbie may not use anywhere near most of them.

I do agree, it's pretty straight forward.

One piece of advice, if you only have one or two controllers, set the Max Unit ID to 1 more than the actual number of controllers you have, I believe the HWU defaults to the maximum and that could take forever to load just your single or dual controllers. For example I have 5 controllers(which is also the minimum Unit ID you can set), I set the Max Unit ID to 6 and when I click Refresh to find my units, it shows me exactly how many units (controllers) I have on-line, controller type and the version number for each controller. Make sure you click the Save button to keep your settings.

It really is quite easy to use.
