Question With Assembling The Ctb16 Pc Board

I'm trying to assemble the PC 16 Channel Board Kit, and I think I may have found a discrepancy with their assembly instructions. One of the parts in the parts listing is "C1- 10uF 50V 10% Ceramic capacitor", with the number "105Z".

However, I have been told that 105Z refers to a 1uF capacitor, not a 10uF capacitor as indicated. Am I losing my mind or is there a mistake with the instructions? A friend is actually building my kits for me (he's a soldering expert, unlike me) and asked me the question.

If you could help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

Check out the inventory of the kit on page 10 of the assembly manual. You will find that C1 is 10uF 50V 10% Ceramic capacitor with a part number of 105Z.

As a note. Should ALWAYS inventory and ID parts before starting assembly. This does 2 things. Verifies all parts are present. Second, gives you a look see of what the parts look like.

Chuck,

I understand that, however, the person building my kits told me that a 105Z refers to a 1uF capacitor, not a 10uF as indicated in the assembly manual. Am I correct in this assumption?

OK, thanks for the prompt response. As long as it works, that is all that matters.

A 10µF, 10% capacitor has a code of "106K'. It's possible that the manufacturer uses "105Z" as a part number, but this would seem odd, as it would always get confused as a capacitor code of a 1µF, +80%, -20%.

Are you certain that the part number/value wasnt changed in the seperate addendum paper? I remember there were a couple changes that do not correspond with the manual..

I'm looking at the addendum note for a CTB-16K (D) kit, so should be similar...lists some resistor network changes..and the rest are semiconductor-related: Q16, Q17, U1, U4, U5.

Parts list mentions C1 as 1 uF, marked 105Z..board is marked as .1. If you look at an old manual for this one, it mentions 10 uF.

Just now looking at a PC version manual, and shows C1 as being 10 uF, marked 105Z.

Definitely sounds like a design change at one point, and the manual didn't catch up, or carried a typo.

Long story short, everyone one of my controllers is doing fine with the cap marked 105Z as C1...my guess would be, it is a 1 uF..

The 1uf part is correct. We will update the manual.
