mmais68569 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Is it possible to run LOR & Vixen on the same computer at the same time to control your Christmas lights? Here is what I have in mind, LOR will run the sequence portion of my show using a USB485 adapter. I vixen will run non musical non sequenced LED flood lights. These will be used to wash the house they will be on for 30 sec. red then 30 sec. green & run the whole program. They will be controlled by a Lynx Dongle & Rainbow Brain. Will this work or am I just thinking outside of the norm? Mike
Jim Saul Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Hi Mike, I don't have a clue if you can run both on the same computer, BUT if you have a newer computer specially if you have win 7 pro, you can easily run a virtual XP computer and run one in that.

Make a non musical sequence of just the red for 30 sec, than the green for 30 sec. Save it, and go into the LOR show editor. the first tab says background. You can have that non musical sequence run the entire time in the background, without interfering with the show! That's the purpose of it!Read the red box. If you do 30 sec of two colors, that that adds up to a min, which is the shortest you can do. Plus it have to be non-musical. Which is what you want to do! Attached files
mmais68569 Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 ny_yankee_25This would work IF I had the LOR IDMX100 but I do not so that is why I asked about running 2 programs at a time. Mike

It says displays using a IDMX100, than follow what it says. otherwise, you have nothing to worry about!I have my FM sign on a non-musical sequence. Its a 1 min long. And I have it running in the background like I described, without any issues.
gizmomkr Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I dont have a lynx dongle, but I have used S2 and Vixen. It boils down to Com ports - LOR is going to talk to its dongle on whatever com port you assign in hardware setup, and vixen will do the same with the Lynx.Serial communication is rather old, but tried and true - a lot of stuff has used or still does use it. I used to support a single system that had 24 devices talking to it on rs232 ports. In the days of green screens and vt100 terms, point of sale termianls, fast food ordering - you could have hundreds of com ports.I would just cap it all of by saying LOR has promised some type of cheap pc-dmx dongle this year. So if you wait, you could probably do the whole thing in s2 / s3
mmais68569 Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 I have it figured out thanks for all the help. Mike
KenL_MCSE Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Hopefully you figured out that you can run both at the same time. I have not done it in prodution but in test mode it works fine. The other option is xLights - which works GREAT!
mmais68569 Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 No what I am doing after much help is to sequence everything with LOR including the floods. Then convert that sequence over to a Vixen format & run that way. It will require making a few cross over cable to connect to the LOR controllers but it will run just fine. Mike
