Useing a LOR controller as a controllable soldering station

Could you use a LOR controller with say a 50 watt soldering iron. If you turned the channel to 50 % would it be half as hot and say 25 watts. Just wondering becasue I think it would be really cool.

Ya that might work depending on the draw of the iron but for 30 or 40 bucks you can pick up a pretty decent solder station, in stead of tying up a controller...

Way to think outside the box
It should work, but unless you have a laser thermomiter to check the temp, you will have no real way of know if 50% power is the same as a 25 watt or a 40 watt.
Although I give you kudos for coming up with the idea, in the end, I think Dale is right, you would be better off getting a decent weller soldering station that you can dial up and down as you need to.
