ShowTime Mini Director with MP3 - Motion Detector

Recommended Posts

I just purchased the Mini Director with MP3 during the recent sale and have read and understand how to use the unit, but I am not clear on what to use to connect to the trigger inputs on the director?

Is this as easy as buing a light motion detector at Home Depot, or is an electrical circuitry project in order now?

Hoping this is a simple purchase and connection, I am looking forward to any suggestions.

Jeff, I see that one does say "indoor use", are there any that will work outdoors?

I was thinking of using such a sensor type after my show shuts down that would turn all the lights on if or when someone came into the display area, but need outdoor rated types for what I would want to do. I would also be using mine with the DC-MP3 ShowTime Director.

Have you, or anyone used that indoor motion detector outside in rain or other weather elements and if so, how well did it hold up?

Don't want to buy something I can't use, or wouldn't be practical in the environment I'd want to use it in (rain, heat, sprinkler system I have no control over).

Thanks!

Just wondering....could you use an outdoor security light with sensor? I would take the sensor off the security light since it is outdoor rated. Of course you would have to make sure everything is sealed water tight after taking it apart. Just a thought.

Most outdoor security lights use 120 volts AC. The LOR controller supplies only 10 volts (and/or 5 volts) DC.

I converted a cheap battery-powered "doorbell" motion detector to a LOR sensor by using the 5VDC from the controller instead of 3 AAA batteries. It's not rated for outdoor use, but it's cheap and the rain didn't seem to hurt it.
