PerryH Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Say you have more extras like iDMX1000, mini Director or whatever that plug into a controllers RJ45 jack than you have jacks available. What is the best way to hook up more of these other controllers? I have read that a router/ switch is a no no. I believe that you could use RS-485 Network Repeaters but that's a lot of money for an extra jack. And I prefer RJ45 over telephone cord, so that jack is out of play.
Paul Roberson Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I don't understand how you are running out of RJ45 connections?? All of LOR's stuff that I know of has 2 RJ45 connectors on it. So if a 'daisy chain' is set up correctly you will not run out? Please explain your set up.
PerryH Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Say I have 1 LOR controller which has 2 ports. I plug my director w/MP3 in 1 and my iDMX1000 in the other - No more plugs. Where to put another if I want another iDMX? Adding additional controllers will not fix the problem because the extra port that it adds will be taken by connecting it to the previous controller.

You'd attach your second iDMX to the first one.The second iDMX would have 2 RJ45 ports, allowing you to continue to the daisy chain.
PerryH Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 BAM. I did not know the iDMX had 2 ports. Thanks
Dan C Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Glad you figured it out. However in the event you do need to create some sort of "Y" in your system, you can use one of these. http://store.lightorama.com/rsnere.html
