Cables for UK

Hi there, just got my first 2 LOR units. I did not get the power in and out cables as would be no good here in UK. I need to make up wire loom but you guys all talk AWG and GA for you cables. We use mm2 for ours I was thinking 1.5mm2 for power in and 0.75mm2 for power out, does that sound ok? also you talk a lot of spt1, spt,2 and spt3 also zip cord???? think we call it bell wire or speaker cable here but thats for low voltage. We have 240v here so dont think that would work.

Also what plugs to you use for outdoor use? dont forget we use large 3 pin plugs, not the tiny 2 pin ones used in the US.

Hope you can sort out.

Thanks in advance.

there are other users here from the UK so your not alone I dont kow about the wire size but I have a few friends in Salford I could ask. I have read other users from UK using converters for the lights to change the plug size from your 3 down to are 2 so they can get in on group buys here in the US

On a side note I will be in Man in July cant wait to go to a chippy

Spt1, Spt2, zip cord, what ever you want to call it are rated for 300 volts.

hi colin i got all my controllers set up for the Aussie power which is the same as ours then proceeded to cut the ends off and fit our own 13amp plugs for the power and gang ends for the light cables and then use weather proof boxes when i connect the lights to the controllers i use a lot of extension cords so that the controllers can stay dry in my garage.... but be warned i had a lot of trouble with lights from Tesco's blowing the triacs i blew nearly a whole controller last year so sent them back for repair and had all the triacs changed to 24amp ones rather than the standard 16amp ones and they have worked a treat i think there was not enough shielding on the transformers i am buying all standard main supply lights this year to be safe

hope all this helps

SPT1 and SPT2 are also known as "lamp cord", since that's what they use for table lamps here.

Thanks Stuart. I have decided that I will be using PC power cord to rig up the lor controler just cut off the 3 pin plugs, this is a cheap option, will use bulgin plugs outside. still looking for ideas.
