Not sure this can translate DMX to the 2801 protocol, either. I wouldn't think so.I would suggest a Tiger TP3244 protocol bridge. Input DMX and the outputs talks to the WS2801 (among other protocols such as the 3005 or 6803)
Ponddude Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 That isn't a controller for protocols, rather a DMX dimmer. It can be used for fading and turning "unintelligent" lights on and off. There is no protocol data sent through that, rather just to the controller. The dead give away is the MOSFETs on the controller. (It also is listed under the dimmers section of his store)
KenL_MCSE Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 If you want to buy and control the individual pixels you need this controllerhttp://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/701799/209915969-384649287/DMX-to-WS2801-decoder-can-drive-LED-with-IIC-signal-output.htmlIf you take the route I did and not worry so much about each individual pixel but more of a grouping. Use these RGB's and this DMX controller. I can post a demo if you want...Lights;http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/314088420-12mm-diameter-through-hole-LED-channel-letter-DC5V-input-RGB-waterproof-0-3W-120degree-beam-angle-wholesalers.htmlController;http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/701799/209915969-378111925/Easy-DMX-LED-controller-dmx-decoder-driver.html

The majority of digital 2801 strings come in 50 pixel lengthsIf you take the route I did and not worry so much about each individual pixel but more of a grouping. Im unsure if this is the case, but the specs tell me otherwise
KenL_MCSE Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I spoke to Ray before I order the first one. He told me that there is a separate power input to control the board just like the LOR board. When I tested the board with 12v into the main power input all worked fine. When I tested the board with 5v, I had to also add 5v to the other plug that drives the board. There was zero documentaion with the board so I had to figure out the voltage and the dmx settings myself. All in all the board test passed with these RGB channel lights.here it is in action
KenL_MCSE Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Eddy, I keep meaning to ask, does your 48ch controller do 5v? I was going to make one then I tripped upon this 27ch controller.
