Arnoldc Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 After about 2 years of wanting to get a LOR system, I finally purchased my LOR start-up kit. I decided to go with the 32 controller system with the advanced software. So here is hoping that the sequencing goes well! I am excited! The newbieArnold

Arnoldc Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Caniac, see already started I got 32 channels.Ken- funny! Prolly right though! Funny thing is I've been wanting to do this for over a year. Last year I got the mr. Christmas to see if I wanted to expand, after the first day, I wanted more! As the Christmas sales started, I stocked up! Turns out I wish I red more about the LEDs you get at the store. I lost about 8 strands. Think I'll stock up on the right LEDs next year, and just use incodecent for the colors I'm lacking this year. Looking forward for the madness to start! The newbieArnold

Aaron Maue Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Agree with the +32 channel comments. I started with the 16-channel starter setup and the Basic Plus version. Within 3 weeks, I owned 3 more controllers (64 channels) and upgraded to Advanced. Love it.
wallleyes Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I started last year 32...64....208...only going up to 320 this year.
Jim Saul Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Welcome to the insanity.I got my 32 channel starter kit last year just after Christmas, and thought that after the 6 channels / 2amp per channel Mr Christmas that 32 would be way more than enough.WRONG!!!I'm now trying to decide what I am building, how many more channels, and what its going to cost me for next year. At a minimum, I am doubling to 64, but I'd really like to go to infinity and beyond

The best way is go ahead and order the 32, much easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Then again, that may explain why I am single.Already planning the display. And what I wanna do, I dunno if 32 is enough! I haven't even gotten the thing yet and it looks like I may need at least one more!
spindler88 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Same here i am waiting for the sale. I could pretend i hit the wrong button when i purchased the 32 channel LOL Then i would have alot of kiss you know what to do. Darn it i wish i was rich. I bought a mega millions ticket. Hey you never now.LOL

HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP Oh i for got i have all of my lights 8000 from day after christmas sales well not all.First, I assume you are planning to get a PC controller rather than a showtime controller. And get a card assembled one for $168, and attach the cords yourself (very easy to do). If you were planning on getting a controller priced higher than that, then you can get a lot more channels for the same money by going the route I mention here. Ask for clarification if you weren't aware of this difference or have questions. Any way for you to make even just a $100 more on some side job--she may be willing to make a deal. Have her devote any/all money she would spend on gifts for you (b-day, xmas, anniversary, etc.) to the LOR fund instead "since that is the only gift you want this year." But explain that with the sale, you can save ~$40 per controller so you don't want to pass that up, so maybe she will give you a cash advance on that money.Next, a good selling point for the wife is the thought of a mega tree or arches. Need a second controller to accomplish either. I did a 6-channel white mega tree my first year that was acceptable (so that is bare minimum needed), but 8ch (per color) looks better (upgraded this year). Show her some videos of some good mega tree or arches.Once she sees the lights on the house, assuming you do a decent job sequencing, she will start to appreciate it a little more. Have any sequencing done yet--could show her what you have in mind through the visualizer on the screen. But until it goes live you can't get the real effect.16 channels will keep you plenty busy, and you want to be careful that if you do a ton more than that that you might have to devote a lot more time to it, and I suspect she may not care for that (at some point, you might want to warn her about the time issue, but after the sale). You also want to be careful not to lose her since she seems like a smart one--she's got this whole thing figured out even before you started. I have heard some say to go the other route though and just make sure you spend enough on controllers that she can't afford a divorce lawyer!
caniac Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I showed mine the weber tree and got the ok to go from 32 to 64.
shfr26 Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 My first year, I wanted to get 16 channels and my wife told me no, get 32 channels. Gosh, she's so mean to me. Hoping for another 32 this year.
