Tim Dorr Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 I know. I know. I should have posted this earlier, but things happen. Regardless, a big thank you to Dan and company for my 5th very successful year using LOR controllers. They worked flawlessly again, as anticipated. The software also was great, even though I know there are many features that I haven't used. It's a learning process.Looking forward to many more years and many more LOR controllers bringing joy and memories to all who see our display.
George Simmons Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Tim - I agree completely with every word you said.I also wanted to say nice job on the display and the website. I enjoyed the heck out of your videos and I must say I saw a few things that might just require some, ah, further study lets say. In other words, thanks for the inspiration on what I might be able to do with a few poles I have laying around.
Tim Herberger Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Say it aint so...I was just reading Good news/ Bad news on your website and because one neighbor who loved the display, now has objections because of the amount of traffic and you have decided not to do the display at your house this year.Short of moving the show, isn't there something you could do to address some of the traffic issues, maybe reduced show hours and a shorter show during peak traffic times and maybe signs banning the limos and tour buses and more frequent announcements about not blocking driveways, no loud radios, no turning around in neighbors driveways, etc.
Melvin Stoddard Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Tim I also agree with everything you said. I am also sorry to hear about your problems, hopefully you can find a place for your outstanding display. I also want to thank you for advice and encouragement. It was greatly appreciated . Mel

I learned some things sequencing wise and will change my methods next time around.

It's still early in the year and something might get worked out.As far as show hours, personally I think the time is about right to spread the traffic out somewhat. Most people come between 7-9, but there are many before and after. So I think shortening the hours would only compress the same number of cars into a smaller window. Actually, with the word of mouth, we'll have more traffic this year than last. It's a public street, so can't ban anyone. I have used only 4 songs the last two years in an effort to keep people moving, but maybe reducing that too would help. The general announcement about not blocking driveways, etc. was mentioned at the top of each show, every 15 minutes. Problem is people drive down the street and get caught up in the lights and really don't realize they are partially in a driveway. As stated on the blog, I think something else may have been going on and our show took the brunt of it. We'll see how things go this spring.
