yukon Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Any idea where to find a sequence with the Holdman Star in it? I thought Richard had posted so free sequences?
Ron Amedee Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Do what i did...Open up a new annimation sequence....Open veiw annimation and draw out the star adding the amount of channels you like for each spoke. Then sequence everything you can think of in alot of different time frames and observe what YOU like...You'll also get very familar with running loops and multiple other features..It's just a practice sequence.... so what the heck GO FOR IT !!!!!
Ron Amedee Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 OK..Feeling guilty;)...Heres a 24 channel practice sequence i just did Attached files Star Burst Annimation.las
yukon Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Thank you. I hooked up the Star and fired up a controller and I Have been practicing different configs....I seem to be getting closer to that one effect I have been looking for. I see it in the Holdman videos with his star and it's just a matter of time before I get a few effects on the star that I think look nice...Thanks for the sequence as well...I'll check that out and see what effects I get from it....I didn't think it was going to be easy, and I was right...I guess I'm just a perfectionist.
taybrynn Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Are you using LED(s) are traditional (incand.) mini lights? The holdman star effects are best achieved with both cross fading between the star channels and using ramps other than just 0->100 and 100->0 ...I've tried it a lot of ways I thought would look better, but found that the way Richard did them in 2007 ... still is hard to beat.
yukon Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 All Led. Yes, Holdman's videos from 2007 look the best ..Still trying to achieve something close...I do a fade up and down alternating between inner and outer star but now I have the issue with the Beams of light. So working on getting that in the Mix. I am using 3 channels
yukon Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Holdman has that 1 effect that looks like a fade between all 3 but haven't quite figured that one out
taybrynn Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Keep in mind that Richard doesn't use LED(s) and his fading will be significantly better than you'll get using LED(s) ... even if you used the exact same sequence he did.You will need to discover the correct fading curve for your LED(s) and even then, most don't fade as smoothly. The firmware for LOR should help this, later this year ... as it'll provide some smoother LED fading ... but then you might have to redo your work again.
yukon Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Well thats a good point, I never thought of that but it could make a difference As far as what's in store yes I read that as well... that we should see improvement with the LOR/LED relationship.I'm actually anxious to see if LOR comes out with the RGB Flood this year as well. I read in here that they are working on pricing for them so it should be something we will see soon.
taybrynn Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Take a look at this video sometime. It shows some interesting differences in fading between LED and incand. and between controllers of various types. And below is a comparison of RGB controllers:http://www.vimeo.com/19615787
toddmoon Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Richard Holdman is a master at programming. There are older sequences that he has been willing to share. He also does programming for a fee.Information and contact information for Richard Holdman can be found at http://holdman.com/christmas/faq.aspAny time I have contacted Richard he has been very helpful and supportive.
yukon Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 Yes I agree...I tried watching his videos and I think I have gotten as close as I can. I see the fade up and down but I'm using all LED and from what I saw in his Video when he built his star it looked like he had either incadescent C7 or C9 so As was stated earlier in this post I won't get quite the same look as Richard gets with his lights.I will say this...It shows how much of an effort Richard has put into his sequencing, or maybe he is just blessed with a natural ability to do it, either way there is a big difference when you take the time to fade at different intensity levels and play with all the tools that LOR has available.I worked on my 3 channels for the Star for 1 song for 6 days just to get the right look. I have gained a new appreciation for patients. But it does pay off in the end. I'd rather have 10 really nice and tight sequences than 20 that I know are just not up to snuff....Thanks for all who replied with info here...Much appreciated.
