Does anyone have a lead on LED flood lamps suitable for outdoor use? I would like to flood color on my house, but want to be energy efficient, so I don't want regular flood lamps. Of course they need to be dimmable so I can use them with my LOR network.

Thanks,

LOR will be releasing their flood light very soon so it will just easily connect to your LOR network

The LOR units sound very exciting, especially as they will be high output constant current devices!

There are a number of units out there - the mighty minis, the constant current high output V floods (being sold over on holiday university), rainbow floods (sold over on christmas on the manor), etc, covering a wide range of prices and outputs.

The three I just mentioned will require installation into a weatherproof enclosure (but that's no biggie).

The LOR unit will be plug and play from what I have heard about it.

They all will have the ability to be controlled via DMX, which allows one floodlight fixture to output any color you want!

If you just want led floods of high quality that are not RGB you can use floods from here http://www.minionsweb.com/

They work well. The 72 LED floods put out about the equivalent light output of a 50 watt flood. I am going with constant current floods this year, as they were just not bright enough for my display.

You should know that I had significant quality issues with 8 out of the 13 that I purchased the season before last. I have been able to repair them and they are once again operational.

I posted about this previously in detail. Feel free to lookup my previous posting on this...

Really, no one mentioned Gregs Renna's Rainbow Floods? Really? I have 8 of them and could NOT be happier! At $14/ea, 64M colors available, 12vdc and microwattage requirements (well, close), you cant go wrong.

The photo is my house at Halloween 2010, lit with three, just three RF Floods (in the white circles)! The house is washed by a large mecury-vapor street light at the corner of the yard and the RainbowFloods overpower the street light, jus' sayin' its plenty bright...

RainbowFloods available at http://www.christmasonmanor.com/rainbowfloodlight/rfl.htm have 54 super-bright LED's... Kits @ $14.95, assembled @ $25.

RainbowSpots http://www.christmasonmanor.com/rainbowspotlight/rainbowspotlight.htm for smaller applications have 15 LED's.

You wont be disappointed.

Agree that Greg's are great, and this year's models appear to be even better. He started a new website though so head to http://www.seasonalentertainmentllc.com/ instead.

See here for the discussion of the new site and products:

I had a feeling this was going to come up, and frankly it should.

The biggest complaint I got last year was regarding the LEDs that were used in the lights. For those of you that had dead loss of LEDs when they arrived you know how much of a hassle it is to have to remove the LEDs from any of the lights. People also didn't like how one color was a different intensity over the next. So, I set out to fix that. The manufacturer of the LEDs that were in last years lights was not one that was really willing to work with me to improve the quality of each bulb. So, I found a new supplier that was ready, willing and able to work directly with me to make sure the LEDs were of a quality that I thought was perfect for our products. I worked with them for nearly 3 months, testing and designing the bulbs to meet the specifications I set out. In one work, this company is "phenomenal." If some of you that purchased the lights last year look at the bulbs you will see that the lens is almost dirty. This new company manufactures the lights in a completely sterile room with employees that are in suits that make them look like they are going to the moon. This ensures that the LEDs are free of any contaminants allows the elements that go into the LEDs to stay free an clear of anything that would alter the color the diode produces. Not to mention, these LEDs use a 2 chipped diode setup, where as the previous LEDs only used 1. When people see the LEDs that are being used, you will be amazed how much better they are compared to previous years.

Unfortunately, as with everything is seems now a days, the cost of quality really is what hits you hard. In 2010 the LEDs made up 47% of the total cost of the board. To populate a flood with the 54 LEDs needed, it cost $7.38 or .14 cents an LED. This year it costs $15.73 to populate a board, or .29 cents an LED. A signifcant increase.

However, I am still convinced this is the brightest, cheapest, LED based, RGB floodlight on the market. When people do the comparisons between the previous years light and the new light, it is beyond compare! Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if anyone ever has any questions regarding anything we offer. greg (@) seasonalentertainmentllc.com

I ordered one to compare with last year's units, and I'm sure I'll order more if the pics are any indication.

Setting aside the cost of components, and the price you pay for quality, the intangible that keeps me as a customer, even beyond the quality of the product, is the support and customer service.
