Aaron Maue
Alright, so I finally finished my first sequence this past weekend. 64 channels. Set to Josh Groban's Believe. Weird song, I know, but it's got a big time meaning to our family, so only appropriate that it's the first. No real value to solicit or provide in this post. I just wanted to share my "victory" with some of the other folks that share this obsession, er hobby. Makes me want to connect everything up and give it a try. One down. Maybe another 10 to go (for this year, that is). Shooting to do one or two per month until Christmas.Aaron

scubado
I also finished my first song this weekend, planning on 96 channels this year. My main computer motherboard failed last night as well. Actually a good thing, lousy sound card. Currently using my show computer to sequence, LOR is working much better on this computer. Hopefully getting a better MB for my main computer.50 degrees today  Was out in shorts and t-shirt pulling up my canes and extension cords and helping the snow melt away faster. Aaron Maue
LOLI love all the stories here. Even though my wife might not appreciate my new hardware cluttering her living room (clutter is in the eye of the beholder), I know there are others who do it every day. When friends/neighbors think I'm crazy, you all make me feel normal. It's normal to listen to Christmas music on the way to/from work in February (or June, for that matter) to work the sequencing out in my head, right? lkcubsrule
I think it's great that the LOR family is expanding!Aaron, I find it interesting that you're finished with a sequence already; great start! Once you get a few years under your belt, sequencing (for me, at least) tends to get pushed off for a while, starting in like October/November. Somehow it all ends up in a huge crunch at the end! It's a good idea to space the work out (like you're planning to do) and would prove effective if you stay on schedule. As a high school student, it's quite hard to find time for sequencing during normal school months.Anyway, I wish you the best with the rest of your sequencing. Try to read up/learn about more tips to make your sequencing more efficient and more precise. Try different methods. My first sequence back in 7th grade (6 years ago) wasn't the best I've done; I've learned tons over the years and continue to find new features and improve sequencing. George Simmons
Aaron Maue wrote: Even though my wife might not appreciate my new hardware cluttering her living room...She's probably operating under the impression that you'll get over it and put it away after a while. Silly woman...Most women probably don't appreciate clutter, but one of the things they DO appreciate is attention. You might have to split the difference in her favor on the clutter thing, at least for this year. But when lighting season gets here in another 282 days, and when the attention from having a unique display starts showering down around her, you might find she's a little more tolerant in future years.Congrats on the first sequence! It's the only first one you'll ever have. Load it onto a thumb drive and then have it bronzed. I didn't do that with mine and I'll always regret it. Don't make the same mistake I did; think of your legacy.Since it's a special song, you'll probably be upgrading and improving it for years, so make sure you keep an archive copy of it somewhere safe - a copy that you don't touch. It will either be worth a fortune one day or it will serve as a tasty slice of humble pie, reminding you of just how bad you really sucked in the beginning. Every time I start feeling too full of myself I take a look back at my first one and it instantly snaps me back to reality. But until then, enjoy the hell out of it and keep up the good work! Jim Saul
Aaron, I admire your ambition. I wish I had it.I keep thinking about starting to sequence now but1)I have 20k new lights that I picked up after Christmas, and I do not yet know what I am going to do with them.2) I don't know how many more channels I am going to buy this summer.3) The new software is supposed to make sequencing much easier and faster so my mind jumps to you can do it 1/2 the time in September.4) I'm lazyI could keep making a list of more excuses, but instead I'm just going to leave it at I'm proud of you! And besides, in the mid 70's right now and I have to work on my tan!

It's a sunny 39 here right now and I feel like stripping down and running around naked too. Wait - i just realized that's due to something else - never mind... but I DO have a thermometer in the sun that thinks it's 82 right now!
NickByrd
Hey George, I have a guest room if you wanna enjoy the FL sun.:cool:Keep at it Aaron. I've been sequencing for a few weeks myself and it does suck knowing that you won't see it for 9 months.
George Simmons
NickByrd wrote: ... and it does suck knowing that you won't see it for 9 months.I must gently disagree... I'm with you as far as it sucking that it's 270 days or so before I see it life-size again. But at the risk of sounding like a broken record, if you take the time to carefully and anally draw in your display overlayed on a picture of your house/yard, you WILL be truly seeing it when you watch the playback in the sequence editor. Aaron Maue
Thanks, all. George - stored safely away for just the reasons you cite. My guess is that in time, I will gaze upon its suckiness and wonder what the hell I was thinking. For now, I'll watch it in the animation window, pound my chest, and revel in my awesomeness. I think you'll all like this: I'm sequencing lights I don't even own yet. Not a lot, but I probably have a few hundred dollars-worth to buy yet.And I'm hoping my ambition holds. I'm doing it now because, more realistically, kids' activities are going to (as always) consume significant time this spring and summer, so my 1-2 / month goal will likely go unmet for a number of months. Also, until this week, it's been too damn cold to think about doing anything outside anyway.
